Not for football, but they do run the rest of the sports' championships. I'm not a fan of the NCAA, but I'd much rather them be in charge of championships then some 3rd party. That's where it could go to hell.

Again, why do we need the NCAA.

This seems like a pretty huge step in the NCAA being dissolved if you ask me. What point do they serve when this is implimented?

Yup, this is going to turn at least the major sports directly into minor-league situations IMO.

The NCAA will never be "dissolved" but at some point they will likely no longer be affiliated with college football. The rest of the sports they will still govern though.
