I love Ken Burns' documentaries. I got hooked with his baseball and civil war series. We watched the country music series a couple of years ago. It was great and I would watch it againKen Burns is awesome. This is a must see for any Country music fan.
Myths? Because you actually grew up with Ty Cobb or did ya'll take a special class in school about him?And he really leaned into pretty well every Ty Cobb myth and that taints the whole baseball documentary
It’s well documented that the Al Stump version of Ty Cobb pretty well all either made up or greatly exaggerated.Myths? Because you actually grew up with Ty Cobb or did ya'll take a special class in school about him?
That Al Stump book? Worthless trash, the movie with Tommy Lee Jones was surprisingly worseIt’s well documented that the Al Stump version of Ty Cobb pretty well all either made up or greatly exaggerated.
I mean for such a nasty racist, black newspapers sure sang his praises after his passing for his never wavering stance that baseball should be integrated.
Honestly, I don’t take anyone that believes the Al Stump version of Ty Cobb seriously when they talk baseball history. There’s a reason Stump waited until Cobb died to publish his lies. Dead men can’t sue for libel.
@broncosmitty knows more than me if you want to know more
Cobb was largely a product of his era and where he grew up. There were far worse racists in baseballStump was a consultant for that film.
Bunch of fiction.

That’s Cobb throwing out the first pitch at the Detroit Stars new stadium in the Negro Leagues.
I’d say if anything, Cobb was less racist than the average white man of his time, north or south. His dad was a pro civil rights politician in GACobb was largely a product of his era and where he grew up. There were far worse racists in baseball
Yeah the whole racist thing about Cobb is bullshit, and as far as the other things in that hatchet job, yes he did brawl with fans (and others) but so did other players, he probably bets on games, but so did other players. Cobb may have had a personality that grated some people, but he was certainly no worse and wasn't any dirtier a player that anyone else of that time.I’d say if anything, Cobb was less racist than the average white man of his time, north or south.
