did the Vikings and Steelers destroy the Gophers and Panthers?

I don't see the NFL teams affecting these programs. Minnesota has been pretty competitive in the last few years. My contention is that any D-1 college program that does not have its own dedicated field isn't going to be very good...hence Pitt
Probably has a bit to do with USC and Miami falling off.

Also not to mention most of Pitt's dominance came in the 20s and 30s when there were far fewer teams and playing a host of teams that don't do FBS. They were just an early adopter.

and Pitt's last great run (1976-81) came while they were an independent school.

:noidea: Minnesota has a nice stadium and facilities , albeit in the Arctic circle..

Pitt’s in the poors conference and can’t afford nice things so… they are toast as a program.

I don't even know how it's possible for the Steelers to somehow hinder Pitt's success lol. Pitt's competition in recruiting is just too tough, Ohio State & Penn State are just giants on their own and West Virginia has been somewhat on a rise, their 2000s success didn't seem to help Pitt at all.
Then again Pitt is just a mediocre program, haven't won a big bowl game in now about 40 years and are 15-31-3 against their two biggest rivals in the past 40 years as well, and both of them are dead rivalries anyway.
Pitt might've won their Conference Championship but until Narduzzi makes it a consistency it just feels like a dead program still.
