Casino owner PENN Entertainment has dropped Barstool, the sports website, agreeing to a $2 billion dollar deal with ESPN to create ESPN Bet.

The online Barstool Sportsbook will be rebranded as ESPN Bet in the fall, PENN said in a statement Tuesday. It secured exclusive rights to the ESPN Bet trademark for 10 years, with an option to be extended for another 10. ESPN’s talent will promote the betting service.

“ESPN Bet will be deeply integrated with ESPN’s broad editorial, content, digital and linear product, and sports programming ecosystem,” Jay Snowden, CEO and president of PENN, said in a statement.

PENN will make $1.5 billion in cash payments to ESPN over the next decade and grant ESPN around $500 million worth of its shares. ESPN also gets to designate a Penn board member after three years.

"ESPN’s talent will promote the betting service."

I've always been suspicious they've been involved anyway.

Their so called 'talent' has pimped some bad bets through the years.

I've kinda noticed that as well. They also make some weird predictions in their game previews. Ultimately, they don't know any better than the rest of us, but of course they're going to use their broadcasting to influence bettors

Networks have been doing tie-ins with stuff like DraftKings for awhile now, this seems like the next logical step.

Any odds on whether they will dominate the market?

Here's to good health for everyone on Hoopla so we can all live to see the day when there are Congressional hearings trying to get to the bottom of the fucked up mess that college athletics is eventually going to become with Super Conferences, wagering, bribes, point shaving, recruiting scandals, the inevitable weird sex angle and maybe even a suspicious death or two.

Of all the organizations who will do something, Congress is pretty low on the list of possibilities.

The politicians are the one group you can always count on to get involved where they aren't wanted. Or maybe you thought I was implying they would do something positive to fix the problems. LMAO We both know better than that.

what a smart move.. ESPN dominates sports traffic here in the US.. this will payoff really well.. They'll have a gambling ticker at the bottom screen during gameday

The fact they sold Barstool back to Portnoy for $0 after giving him $600M for it.

Level 1000 IQ move by Penn.

They weren't able to get the necessary licensing with the Barstool name attached to them. Something like this had to be done from Penn's point of view. But Portnoy comes away from all this looking like a genius.

Wouldn’t trust em to pay out. I’ll stick with the bookie where I can drive to his house

Yea, it's pretty fucking hilarious though from all sides.

Disney be like, "we're all about the children and being good and yay.....hey, kids wanna gamble and develop an addiction?"

Penn be like, "gosh, Barstool was such an anchor for us with all the gambling commissions, yo Dave, you want this thing back...for free?"

Portnoy...lol.
