We saw a lot of this with Richt v. Smart. Their records were very similar until last year. Because I knew more details about the two coaches, it was obviously not a fair comparison to anyone looking past numbers.

I don't know enough about your program, but it seems Dumbo (1) has a NC already, so he's proven he can do it, and (2) does seem to be on the way up, even before the NIL. But, he can't keep having 4 loss seasons or even ATM with all your money will lose patience.

Agreed. Context matters. I also think the SEC is stronger now than it was during the early years of the Sumlin era at ATM.

It's also notable that Sumlin's only great season happened when Kingsbury was his OC. After he left, Sumlin was 19-21 in SEC play.

Stronger now? Have you paid attention to the SEC West? Every school except Bama and A&M have replaced a coach in the last 2/3 years. The last 2 years have been the worst the West has been in at least a decade
