The sequel to Gladiator is now scheduled for release on Friday, November 22, 2024.

Ridley Scott will return to direct, but the cast of the first film will not return, as Maximus (Russell Crowe) is dead, and this film will be set decades later and instead focus on Lucius, the little boy from the first film who was the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). Paul Mescal is in talks to play Lucius.

The red viper headlining. Sounds promising.

Barry Keoghan was originally supposed to play one of the villains, Emperor Geta, but ended up not in the movie due to a scheduling conflict with Saltburn, in which Keoghan plays the lead, so Keoghan ended up being replaced by Joseph Quinn. Interestingly, that means two members of the upcoming Fantastic Four -- Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal) and Human Torch (Joseph Quinn) -- are both in this movie.

Has anyone seen this yet. I am reading it sucks.

I thought from the trailers it was going to be very bad, but I went to see it on opening night anyway because I regard the original film so highly. The movie was much better than my admittedly low expectations.

I enjoyed it, but it is very derivative of (repeats many of the same plot beats) and lacks the greatness of the first film. This sequel is like if the original Gladiator had a bastard child with 300: entertaining, but it abandons the relative realism of the first film and replaces it with fantasy spectacle.

Fake news

Barry was lined up to play the other brother alongside Quinn

Sucks, no

Uneccessary and extremely average? Yes.

Its essentially the same plot of the first one just way worse and also just random. Also the whole "plan" of Denzel character is essentially ruined because of the classic "messed with the wrong man on a mission" plot.

It actually didn't drag too much. But at the same time, any parts without Denzel or the emperors(great but underdeveloped) was boring. And the battles/deaths were way too quick like odd editing almost.

Theres a part where they have water and sharks in the coliseum which is ludacrious even if this were a marvel movie.

Nothing that made is suck just a lot that made it blahhhhhh. Oh and Pedro Pascal with the most pointless casting of all time.

Denzel was fantastic though.

I'll wait until it's free someplace. From what I've seen and read, it seems if Denzel wasn't in this, it would be a straight to video movie.

I think he gets the Oscar; announcing his retirement helps.
all i heard about this movie panned him for being the one person in the cast that said fuck it, i'm not ditching my accent.
