Over a decade ago, the film The Golden Compass (2007), based on the His Dark Materials fantasy steampunk series by Philip Pullman, was supposed to launch a franchise but failed at the box office.

So now they're trying again, this time as a TV series starring two X-Men actors: Dafne Keen (previously X-23) as Lyra Belacqua and James McAvoy (previously Professor X) as Lord Asriel.

I liked the show overall but as a huge fan of the books I didn't like Lyra's personality in the show. Daphne Keen plays her entirely too civilized and empathetic; Lyra is supposed to be a savage little asshole until book three.

I just finished the finale. I enjoyed the show quite a bit. The show has some noticeable differences from the books, but it’s quite watchable.

I thought they nailed a lot of the casting, Mrs. Coulter especially.

Is this a HBO only show?

Feels like this has been off the air for like 3 years.

Glad I noticed this thread. I thought the movie was pretty decent and now I have 3 seasons to watch!
