Alright I ended up not liking the other one.

I was originally going to include since BCS began, but I added in 1997 because, why not? This is not the best NC since 1997, but the Top 16 since then.

Bracket Format (as usual)
12- or 16-team bracket (depending on results of seeding threads)
Semifinals losers go for 3rd Place
Better seed wins tie breaker
In case of rematch, winner of first matchup automatically wins 2nd.

Here I will include the NCs.

1997 - AP - Michigan, Coaches - Nebraska
1998 - Tennessee
1999 - Florida State
2000 - Oklahoma
2001 - Miami (FL)
2002 - Ohio State
2003 - LSU
2004 - USC
2005 - Texas
2006 - Florida
2007 - LSU
2008 - Florida
2009 - Alabama
2010 - Auburn
2011 - Alabama
2012 - Alabama
2013 - Florida State
2014 - Ohio State
2015 - Alabama
2016 - Clemson
2017 - Alabama
2018 - Clemson
2019 - LSU
2020 - Alabama
2021 - Georgia
2022 - Georgia

Any teams that did not win the NCG that you feel are among the Top 16 during this time period?

2019 Ohio State
2021 Alabama
2015 Clemson
2007 WVU

For clarification of "Best", is it the most impressive based on results over the course of the season or is it based on very subjective opinion on how good we think the teams are?

One has some measurability to it (although even it is fairly subjective) while the other has almost no objective dated other than perhaps citing NFL draft picks.

Well, even though 97 Nebraska would have mollywhopped Michigan, I don't think either team is at the top of this discussion.

Off the bat, without looking into it, my mind immediately goes to 01 Miami and 04 USC.

Slight correction needed. 2017 Bama lost a game. UCF was the only undefeated champ that year.

2019 LSU
2018 Clemson
2022 UGA

15-0 or it doesn’t count

I leave this part up to each person. I try to pick topics that doesn't have to fit a certain criteria.

2022 - Georgia … franchise starting in 1997 ending in 2023 - Alabama

So far

1997 - AP - Michigan, Coaches - Nebraska
1998 - Tennessee
1999 - Florida State
2000 - Oklahoma
2001 - Miami (FL)
2002 - Ohio State
2003 - LSU
2004 - USC
2005 - Texas
2006 - Florida
2007 - LSU
2008 - Florida
2009 - Alabama
2010 - Auburn
2011 - Alabama
2012 - Alabama
2013 - Florida State
2014 - Ohio State
2015 - Alabama
2016 - Clemson
2017 - Alabama
2018 - Clemson
2019 - LSU
2020 - Alabama
2021 - Georgia
2022 - Georgia

2007 West Virginia
2015 Clemson
2019 Ohio State
2021 Alabama

I'll add

2002 - Miami (FL)
2005 - USC

List of teams to add:

2007 Georgia
2007 USC
2011 LSU
Homer Pick: 2001 Tennessee. I think this was the most talented Tennessee team that I have ever seen but wasn't necessarily the "best" (i.e. payed together).

Edit: Another thought is that I feel like a better cut-off would be 2008 or 2009. The teams in the late 90s and early 2000s played in a very different game. No spread for example.

2011 LSU if we’re only doing non champs. Still one of the best resumes of all time and got screwed having to have a rematch with Bama after they’d already beaten them in Tuscaloosa

I will automatically include the NCs for this thread. Next couple will be filtering out those (NC or not) that were not Top 12 or 16. Then maybe work a seeding thread in there.

I am learning a little Adobe After Affects and figured out how to do this.

2018 Bama - has to be the best collection of talent not to win it all. Just look at their offensive roster.
2008 USC - Lost to Oregon State in a big upset. Won their games by an avg of 32 ppg.
