I'm helping a department here at the U resolve a one year old unpaid invoice, they apparently no longer like the contract signed and want to renegotiate the contract before paying, this isn't the first time they've done thisJust withdrew on a case where the client owes me like $7500. Never should've let it get that high. I'll probably never see that money.
Can't you force them to pay?
Yeah, I’ll send them to collections. If I recall, I had the dad sign as guarantor on the retainer, so I should be able to sue them both. You can surely send them to collections, no?
We have a collections attorney that does all that for us.Hire a good lawyer and sue them?

I forgot, lawyers don't need to hire collections, they just file their own papers.Yeah, I’ll send them to collections. If I recall, I had the dad sign as guarantor on the retainer, so I should be able to sue them both.
We don't do our own collections. Too much work for our small office. We pay a collections lawyer 1/3rd of everything she collects on our behalf.I forgot, lawyers don't need to hire collections, they just file their own papers.
That seems pricey. She must be as persistent as vehicle warranty extension callers. We don't do our own collections. Too much work for our small office. We pay a collections lawyer 1/3rd of everything she collects on our behalf.
Pretty standard rate for lawyers that work on contingency. Personal injury, collections, class actions, etc. That seems pricey. She must be as persistent as vehicle warranty extension callers.
I think I hired a collection company years ago and it was 15%. Not a lawyer though technicallyPretty standard rate for lawyers that work on contingency. Personal injury, collections, class actions, etc.
Idiots.I'm helping a department here at the U resolve a one year old unpaid invoice, they apparently no longer like the contract signed and want to renegotiate the contract before paying, this isn't the first time they've done this
Me: Maybe we shouldn't do business with these guys anymore
Department: We've been doing business with them for over a decade
Me: ok, maybe to avoid collection issues in future we collect payment upfront
Department: Well it seems unfair to treat them different
We're treating them different because they don't pay, consistently ask for reworking of contracts and we spend more time/money on administration of contract than we collect for services
That's pretty standard.I think I hired a collection company years ago and it was 15%. Not a lawyer though technically
