Does Petrino have total freedom on game days?

“There’s a lot of things that are involved in what goes on, I’m not going to get into what we’re doing, how we’re doing it,” Petrino said. “I’m not trying to avoid anything, I just don’t want to create the narrative out there for what goes on. Listen, Bobby was hired for a reason, and he’s a tremendous coach and a tremendous guy, tremendous football mind, tremendous recruiter, he’s done a great job recruiting since he’s been there, everything he does.”

Fisher explained that it’s a more collaborative effort than fans and media let on.

Hopefully he’ll call the game, we’ll have suggestions on things we do, whether it’s offense, defense,” Fisher said. “Every coach is always involved. It’s more collective thing than people want to give it room for, and then when you get to calling you get on a roll, you get guys that can do it, and I believe that Bobby can definitely do that. Does it as well as anybody in college football. Have great respect for him.”

Maybe it's me but these are weird comments coming from Jimbo:

1. From an accountability standpoint it's a mistake to not name the guy that is going to call the plays and "hopefully he'll call the game" makes it sound like its not definitive that Petrino will.
2. I don't see a scenario where Petrino isn't going to want control of play calling and to be honest the guy has earned the right to be given that chance.
3. It just seems like Jimbo is hesitating about giving up the reins and that is a mistake.

Agree 100%, “Hopefully he’ll call the game”

Wut??

Who does he need to ask if Bobby P is gonna call the game or not?

Maybe he’s keeping Bobby as a scapegoat for when they have one of them 13 point juggernauts then say something like “well maybe he’ll get us goin next week”

How can Petrino be the scapegoat?

Jimbo has pretty much said he doesn't know who will be calling plays, it will be a collaborative effort and he really hasn't left any room to blame anyone else. At least Gus was smart enough to claim someone else would be calling the plays even though there wasn't a person alive that believed him.

That is the problem you have two guys on the sidelines that are used to calling the plays, not being questioned about it, and want full control of the offense and that isn't going to work. Jimbo is an idiot if he doesn't give Petrino full control of the offense during games. I'll give credit to Saban he lets his coordinators run their side of the ball and he holds them accountable (which is fair). You can't do this shit by committee and the ONLY time I've seen it work was when LSU won the national championship but with that QB and those receivers that had unreal catch radiuses how do you screw that up?

I was grasping for any kind of reason even a stupid one. Maybe he thinks he can call plays having Bobby P as the OC in name only then blame him when things go south (which they will no doubt) ? Makes no sense, I can’t see Petrino going for that :laugh:but ..neither does his comments.

I was under the impression that he brought Petrino in for that very thing and for Jimbo to be the CEO type of HC and get out of his way. By the looks of things, he still wants to have his hands on the steering wheel which is stupid when you have a guy like Petrino at your disposal. I could cut him some slack if it was some greenhorn with potential but still unproven skills, that ain’t Petrino, guy is a bit of a di*k but he is a heck of an offense mind.

Petrino or RichRod would be great OC’s. Unfortunately neither can control themselves

I’m wondering if Jimbo and Motorcycle Man have some differing philosophies when it comes to calling an O

Jimbo has always prided himself as THE playcaller on his team.. He's so confident he literally had a WR coach switch to being the QB coach a summer ago lol.. to him it didn't matter as long as it was his show..

The comments here though is interesting since he was the one that hired Petrino.. or was that the "BMDs" call? Wait.. you mean the Boosters are calling shots at aggy?? It's not just a UT thing?!?!?!?
