I know its tomorrow, but I just cant the get shit out of my head tonight. Watching my youngest graduate has really triggered this, and I just need to get it out there.

S. Secure your firearms away from children.
A. Ask about firearms being secured where your children visit.
F. Frequently talk to the children in your life about what to do if they, or a friend, find a gun.
E. Educate others about safe storage, and options that allow for quick access, but child safety.

Its been 8 years since Brooklynn was killed at her friends home, by her friend, with her dad's gun. She was 13. She would have been 21 this year, and in her 3rd year of college. All because her friends dad was ignorant, gave his daughter access to a firearm, and she made a bad choice. Like kids often do.

This is not to make you cunts feel bad for me, and I really don't want to hear how sorry anyone is. IDGAF about the pity party shit. I just want you to think for a minute about how you can make sure the kids in your life arent affected by this. Talk to them. Teach them. Be responsible about your guns, and appreciate whatever it is that you have.

I dont give a shit about your political views, I dont give a fuck about gun control, and I dont give a fuck what you own. Keep the shit out of the hands of kids, unless you are with them.

I taught my daughter about guns, and she was trying to usher her friends brother away from the gun when she was shot through her back. Through her spine, with a hollow point, and out through her heart and chest, riddled with shrapnel. If there was a trauma ER in the garage of that house, it wouldn't have mattered.

Too preventable to be acceptable, and still happens every day in this country somewhere.

Please just think about it, please.

I'll assume the owner of the gun is still breathing, which makes you a better man than me.

Growing up in the sticks I had too many friends with WAY too much access to guns.

My dad sold all his guns when we were young and has multiple safes full now that we're out of the house. But I had another friend whose dad just kept them in a pile in his closet. Brother of that friend once put one of those guns to my head. I took it away from him, chased him around the house and kicked in 2 doors to beat his fucking ass. Multiple people had to pull me off. The dad had the balls to try and make me pay for the busted doors. I said I'll bring the money over with cops and multiple witnesses to arrest your kid for holding a gun to my head. I heard the dad kicked the kids ass after that and made him pay. Dad and kid still didn't learn. A few weeks later my friend, sitting at his desk studying, hears a gunshot in the house. Stupid fucking brother shot a hole through the closet floor into my friend's bed. If he had been sleeping, he'd be dead.

But hey, no pity party, no parent should have to bury their child. I watched my parents do it with my brother almost 20 years ago. I still see it on their faces today.

This needs more attention that that other Sino event that shares the same date.

According to National Day Calendar's website, June 4th is a national holiday for seven things...

- National Doughnut Day
- National SAFE Day
- National Cheese Day
- National Hug Your Cat Day
- National Old Maids Day
- National Clean Beauty Day
- National Cognac Day

While I'm REALLY tempted to be smartass trolly and rank National Cheese Day higher than National SAFE Day, truth is... properly managing your firearms is a matter of life and death and really does need to have it's own day to reach as many people as possible.

Move National Clean Beauty Day to whichever day Wal-Mart restocks their health & beauty isles.
Move National Cognac Day to whichever day some famous French guy wasn't a complete douchenozzle.
Move National Hug Your Cat Day and Old Maids Day to whichever day honors old witches.
Move National Doughnut day to whichever day honors police officers.
Move National Cheese Day to Super Bowl Sunday.

I highly recommend that everyone spread the word in a gentle fashion and if you have family or friends that don’t have a safe way to secure guns then buy them some locks.

Since this has happened I’ve bought my brother, my uncle and two friends small lock boxes for their hand guns. It doesn’t have to a safe that cost hundreds of dollars. A $30 metal lock box works just as well for handguns or ammo.

No excuse not to lock up the guns.

Whenever I think of this day I think about all the people who have heard this message, heeded it by securing their firearm and in the process avoided a tragedy from happening. We will never know the number of times that has happened but it no doubt has happened. Great job by you and your family Peter for raising awareness to this issue.

I haven't posted anything on social media in like two years, but dusted a profile off to share your message.
