Pretty nice weekend. Finished up the major work on the ballfields on Saturday. Got to watch my daughter perform yesterday. Our season starts tomorrow. Keeping an eye on the weather Saturday, we're supposed to have a first pitch ceremony and stuff but the early weather forecast is for rain. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world for me anyway, we're already trying to juggle other commitments to see if we can even get a team on the field.

Looks like no off-season for me when it comes to coaching. I really was hoping to be "semi retired" from it until football in about 4 years. Instead I'll be helping coach Coach Pitch. They were trying to make me the head coach and I said absolutely not. I'll just help and I'd rather not be the coach pitching as my arm is shot from football playing QB.

somehow got myself a cold over the weekend, so was fighting that the entire time.

tried to golf on Saturday but fucked up my tee time somehow and booked it for the wrong day...so didn't golf. Hit the range instead, which was needed and really all I was able to do with the cold...so all for the best.

I should be getting into coaching now as I told my buddy I'd help him coach his son's (well step son - soon to be) tee-ball team. I figured It's time I branch out and do something for my town and it's a great way to meet people I wouldn't normally get to meet (Parents I mean)

Gonna be throwing some D in single tee ball moms this season, eh?

Uncle Rico would've never let this happen to him.

If it were Tball, I'd been OK with being the head coach. I enjoy watching & helping with it. Though last how many years they never asked. I helped Cousin N1, his boys' baby mama, and Cousin S2 the year their kids played here. The people on the ball board stupidly ran them off as they weren't locals. That same year I offered to help the stepkids' coach pitch team and got a no. They ended up needing 2 teams and came crawling back to me, but I already was helping Tball. So MIL & wife's aunt helped coach & were out of towners. They didn't get asked to help either the next year.

I'm not gonna go that far and be the head coach lol. I will be fine with sitting on the sidelines and helping.

I'll be "teeing it up" alright! Or at least try to

Should say playing catcher every year as a kid from like 7 to 14 didn't help either. Though the football & wrestling was more likely. Actually screwed it up on defense more so than QB. I may or may not end up with CTE lol. I knocked out like 3 opponents and broke a teammates wrist as well when we both made the tackle.

LL boards can be weird. We alternate between begging for people to help us and then chasing away people who want to help because they don't have kids in the league. It might be a bit odd, but to me, as long as you can pass a background check, and then obviously aren't doing shitty stuff once you come in, we should be happy to get help. Could be retirees whose kids played and just want to have something to do for a couple of hours a week.

Yeah that's how it should be. Instead it's a family & their friends trying to run the show & ruining the program. At this point they & the other town for the school district are eventually going to have to merge. Even though they go to school & will play in HS together (most not all), there is a big rivalry between them. That merger will be nasty. The LL coach decided his travel ball team will be the LL team as well. So the other town is losing a small portion of their kids to that team. Meanwhile the other kids over there aren't going out as they don't want to play against the travel team. Same for the kids here like Buck & his 3 friends as they dont have enough for a 2nd team and they'd hardly play.

Man it is foggy AF here... Barely can see in front of you. Fortunately I am not going anywhere today

We're the small league in this scenario. The township that surrounds us has a much bigger league, and we have enough kids for a team or maybe two above tee ball. We're starting to grow some now that we've started a softball program, but we've only been able to field a team at the 7-8 level in softball so far. Maybe next season we'll have enough to do one 7-8 and one 9-10 team, but we're still very much dependent on the township to be able to play. We usually have enough baseball kids to have 2 coach pitch teams. If we could get that to 4, we could at least do that in-house, but that's probably a couple of years away at best. Still, we have a good facility, and for now a good relationship with the league around us.

Both towns the LL coach is screwing are small, though the other town used to be bigger with 2 teams for LL. Basically every town in the league is small. Heck a few towns no longer have teams in the league like my old LL. Used to be 7 to 8 towns with about 10 teams. Now it's 5 towns and 5 or 6 teams.

Why don't the towns just combine teams? They do around here
The teams that no longer have any in the league had their kids absorbed by teams in other leagues. The league was teams from small towns not far from bigger towns in both states. The bigger towns have enough teams that they just play each other in house. Of the 5 basically remaining, I can see 2 more consolidations just leaving 3 and maybe 3 to 5 teams tops. 5 might be doable, but 3 will just shut it down most likely. Travel ball is about to kill it off here anyway. You'll have to go to the bigger towns to play in house for rec or be on travel. The dang HS & MS programs seem to be pushing travel so the travel teams are the bad guys to cut kids so they never have to do it.
