Let's rethink the $8.1 billion deal ...

Good thing we don't and never will then.

I think Warren did a great job ... I started my post with that. After Covid, that's a pleasant surprise. It's a great deal you got for sure. The friction costs associated with the distances is intriguing to me. After reading that article, unless they get 2 more, and do 3 6 team pods, I am guessing it's going to be a lot harder with a lot of unanticipated consequences. We'll see.
Hope he realizes that Rutgers may get a bigger portion of it's media deals but they won't ever come close to bringing in the money a program like UGA will bring.. Rutgers doesn't have the base that donates to the athletic dept the way that UGA does.

That's something...but I'm assuming they didn't do that for any other sports besides football. That might be the path for the Big Ten
I've thought all along there should be many "football only" conferences because football travel really isn't an issue. I saw Neal Brown's comments at the Big 12 media days about West Virginia's travel. He said it really wasn't bad for football but acknowledged the other sports struggled with it to a degree.

Hell, two football independents have made non football conferences work pretty well. Notre Dame and BYU.

Exactly. Everyone seems to disregard this revenue source. All the talk about "equal" shares is really one big crock of shit when you consider "total revenue". There are huge gaps within conference members in non media revenue. Always has been and always will be.

I am not saying it's not worth it. Just pointing out that when you look at total value of the deal, you also have to look at costs. The west coast aspect of this has a lot of friction costs - direct and indirect. Just pointing that out. 4% ain't a rounding error.

I love that the SEC is staying relatively regional. I can still drive to most of any games I want to go to and I live outside our footprint, far to the east. Personally, I'd be pissed if the SEC went any further to the west. If they expand in the future, I wouldn't mind UNC (son goes there and I live 20 minutes away), Clemson, FSU and Miami (a trip to South Beach every other year works and I grew up in south Florida). But, if they had gone west coast, that would have sucked.
Fuck that drive.....

He was talking where lawdawg lives to close to Austin
yeah i would just fly.. but when I was younger I'd probably make that drive like I used to when I lived in Richmond, VA to visit family in friends in Austin (22 1/2 hour drive)

Agreed, It's probably way cheaper to fly anyway. And saves a helluva lot of time.

Not only that but people are really misunderstanding the comparison between the B1G and the SEC. It's going to go up and down because the B1G's deal is backloaded with USC and UCLA not coming in for a year or two, and the $350 million CBS money not kicking in until 2025. They won't get full money until 2026.

Meanwhile, the SEC's 2nd ESPN deal kicks in in 2025 adding $250 million, and OU and TX come into the SEC in 2025 which, along with the change to a 9 game IC schedule in a 3-6-6 format will enable the SEC to renegotiate the 1st ESPN deal.

And then the new CFP deal comes into play in 2026, and that favors the SEC considerably in most years.

What all this means is that 2026/27 is when you want to look at where the two leagues are. Everything I have read indicates they will be within $10 million of each other in per team distributions, both over $100 million per year.

Then of course, the B1G gets to renegotiate again on 2029 and that is when there may be a period of disparity with the B1G making more, at least until 2034 when the SEC's new deal will kick in.

who from NC is playing someone in Dallas? Or is that somewhere in oklahoma?.. still 17 hours is a lot better than..

Just roll up a newspaper and swat his nose ... he'll go back to the kiddies table and leave you alone.

He can't read for shit. I clearly said, "I can still drive to most of any games I want to go to and I live outside our footprint, far to the east." Obviously, I wouldn't drive to Austin or Norman. Unlike him, I have money and my time is valuable, so I can fly. I live in Raleigh and have driven to games in Atlanta, Bama, Ole Miss (that was a haul, but my sons split the driving time with me and we had a blast), Knoxville, Nashville, Jacksonville, USCjr, Athens (obviously), Auburn. I flew to Mizzou, LSU, and would fly to ATM, TX, Arky, and OU. I am going to the MSU game this year, will probably fly to Atlanta and then drive with my UGA travel bud.

I’d like to see Cal added personally. Cuz my sister is in administration at Berkeley and I can get free tickets.

I think we’re going to see huge road attendance out west for awhile. Especially the last month or so of the season.

That could wear off after each team has played out there a couple times. But that will take about a decade.
I was thinking the other day if the SEC grabbed UNC, NCSU and Duke, I'd be in heaven. I would have 3 SEC schools 20 minutes from my house. I'd be going to 1 or 2 games each Saturday.

That said, UNC would be fine, NCSU and Duke, ain't happening.

You gotta figure you’ll get at least one of UNC/NCState if not more.
