What kind of a racists piece of shit rule the NFL created. Talk about asking for trouble. Hey you have a coach you want to give???, well you’re gonna have to have a couple sham interviews to check off a few boxes first.

And lol at all the espn ball washers not counting Robert Salah as a minority coach or Shod Khan as a minority owner.

They do consider Saleh a minority coach. Same with Ron Rivera. They just don’t consider either of them black. Mostly because they aren’t.

It's especially egregious when one considers that it's design or intention at it's inception and how it actually plays out in the real world is just as you described, a sham to check off the minority interview.

Is the NFL so full of evil racist white people that they need a rule like this? Or was this a feel good, PR woke thing that backfired? Both results should piss a lot of people off to no end.

......why?

Has this even been a problem?
Seems the black assistant coaches waiting in the winds have come from being QB coaches in the past. Is this a ratio thing or something?
Them again I have never been a fan of the Rooney rule anyways.

BTW why are they still saying minority, when they mean black?

If there were a bunch of possible black QB coaches not getting hired that's one thing....but I haven't seen anything about that. This is, of course, an easy way out "fix" to try to look like they are doing something. I don't know the pipeline from black player to black QB coach but seeing if that needs fixed to try to produce more quality candidates seems like the better idea, but that of course takes work and the NFL would never do that outside of a token gesture.

hang on, so the NFL is saying that now when you hire a coach you have to add a black QB coach? How oddly specific...and pointless.

Nah, if you're hiring for a QB coach you've gotta interview a black candidate now.

Who's going to be the token interview drug across the country to fulfil the requirement?

The “problem” is that historically there weren’t any black coaches because there weren’t that many qualified candidates.

Consider that head coaches don’t start out as such. You start out at low level position coaches or coordinators and get promoted and learn in the system. Well think of the axiom, those that can, do, those that can’t, teach. A lot of slower less athletic and, yes, white guys got into coaching because they couldn’t do, but they could teach. So it was (and is) always a larger pool to draw from.

Minority coaches will rise up, but to be successful they have to rise up through the same channels as everyone else. Without the proper experience, cutting people to the front of the line for diversity’s sake only is setting them up for failure.

Probably because they’re being sued by a black coach who did a poor job and was fired.
Black coaches get fired and claim it was because of racism. White coaches get fired all the time but nobody cares.
