Looks like SEC to 9 game (3-6-6) IC schedule in 2025

My guess is that this would be required to get a renegotiation with ESPN.

A few things I found recently with regard to the SEC's TV media rights:

1. There are two components - the large deal with Disney for ESPN/ABC to cover all major sports and the SECN, and then the add-on deal for what was the CBS 3:30 game. Both start in 2024.

2. Very interestingly, no one knows exactly what the terms are for the big deal. Here is what The Athletic said:

Dates of next phase of deal: 2024-2033
Terms: $300 million for weekly No. 1 game, other figures unavailable

If The Athletic can't get it, it can't be gotten.

We know that the ESPN deal that is running now is worth about $675 million, give or take &10 million. So the deal that starts in 2024 will be worth more than that, plus the $300 million.

3. Another very interesting thing is that the contract in 2024 includes a clause that the money will be increased proportionately - all teams would get the same they were getting, but now 2 more full shares - if new teams are added. This is bad news. That means that adding OU and TX would only add about $200 million when we know adding them is worth more - we know this because USC and UCLA brought more and OU and TX are worth more to the SEC.

But, people seem to think that changing the schedule to not only add more games but also change the format to increase many-fold way better games will enable the SEC to re-negotiate the contract.

4. Any SEC fanbois (raises a paw), who thought the B1G might be way ahead of the SEC, can rest easy. Especially when the expanded CFP kicks in. I'll bet by 2030 SEC teams are getting $115-$130 each.

so.. this is supposed to happen for the 2025 season but yet they want to formalize/announce this sometime this fall? Hmmmmmm

People were always speculating what ESPN was going to pay the SEC.. but I doubt anyone really knows outside ESPN and the SEC office.. In fact I didn't know til yesterday that the SEC is also drawing profit shares with ESPN.. So they will be hitting incentives that pays more.

Sets the table for the Big Ten to go to 10 conference games and expand to 20

Has ESPN given the PAC a figure yet?

Not surprised, with OU and Texas coming, you kind of had to go to 9 games with 16 teams.

Yeah I'm not a fan of 10 conference games.. But I'm sure they are going to do it for the money. Wonder if they still schedule aggressive with OOC games vs SEC schools?

The SEC deal and what the numbers are going to be is very intriguing as you are correct no one knows. I’ve searched and listen to a lot of interviews but the people that really understand this (discounting the ones that make assumptions to generate clicks or conversations) will admit there isn’t enough information to make a definitive statement.

I think it’s safe everyone is under the 100 million mark that everyone threw out.

You can get a pretty good idea by looking at what the conference is paying each team. That’s publicly available information, and you can kind of work backwards from there.

I’m talking about the new deals that haven’t kicked in yet.

Same thing, you just have to wait until the payments are made out. I understand that we don’t know now, but as soon as the first payments come out once the new deal is in place, will have an idea of what they’re getting.

I like the idea of getting OKSU and KU in there ...

Yeah, that's quite a Thanksgiving line-up!

I'm doing the Iron Bowl this year, my first.

OU gets nothing out of playing Missouri. Nothing. Now Bedlam? Oh yea, that's the ticket. We'll see just how creative and accommodating the SEC is going to be with Oklahoma. Let's hope they treat us right and we can return the favor with wins against a football program that will likely be the Big XII's top team most years.
