TV Series Lovecraft Country

HBO has cancelled Lovecraft Country after just 1 season. Guess Jonathan Majors can focus full-time on being Kang the Conqueror now.

HBO has fallen off a cliff with their standard of high quality shows. I knew it was going to happen when they got bought out by AT&T and then all sorts of top of the leadership of HBO was changed for the first time in decades. Game of Thrones was their last great show. Euphoria is the only show since then that has that same classic level of HBO quality but it's one thing to have a great 1st season, 2 years later and we still haven't got to see if it will still be great in season 2.

The Mare of Easttown was good but that was just a limited series.

Succession is really good.

I enjoy Westworld and I thought Watchmen was fantastic, even if it was a limited series.

I haven't been able to get into His Dark Materials, but it has promise.

Westworld was in development prior to AT&T buying HBO. Succession was after AT&T bought HBO but it was before Richard Plepler left HBO in early 2019. Plepler was the Chairman and CEO of HBO and was with HBO for 27 years. There has been a sharp drop in quality from HBO since both AT&T purchased it and then Plepler leaving a few years later.

Back in 2018 AT&T announced their plans to go with quantity over quality when it comes to HBO which was essentially the deathblow of what HBO always stood for.

Don't be so dramatic.

And GoT wasn't all that good.

The books were better.

It was great. And actually having just finished a 3ish year effort to listen to the audio books of the books I actually prefer a lot of the story differences in the HBO show. Not having the Young Griff storyline included at all is the big one that the show was missing. Show should have gone on for several more seasons but they rushed the end which tarnished the show.

But GoT wasn't the only great HBO show. HBO used to have the best shows. Now it's just flooded with this quantity over quality shit that every other producer of TV content does. It has watered down the quality of shows to come from HBO.

I agree that they have a lot more right now, especially since starting their streaming service, but I still think there is quality in that quantity.

Outside of Euphoria I can't think of a single show on HBO right now that I am anticipating a new season of. Maybe the new season of Danny McBride's show if that ever actually gets a 2nd season released but that is more so due to McBride's track record already established on old HBO.

did you like Perry Mason? I thought that one was solid.

No. Didn't get rave ratings or reviews so never bothered to watch it.

Are you unable to form your own opinion? You need "rave reviews" to tell you what to watch?

There is a lot out there these days and HBO doesn't have the same quality that it used to. Not just going to tune into a HBO anymore to give it a try when the quality has been so diluted by their quantity over quality strategy. It used to be the gold standard, not just another place to find mediocrity.
