Really no way to talk about this movie without spoilers.

The visuals were interesting, especially for the chase scene and the fight scene at the precinct. I thought there was some interesting concepts here, but I didn't like some of the execution.

My biggest issue with this movie is that the twist is pretty well telegraphed from the opening scene and the title of the movie. You probably have Gabriel sharing a brain as a possibility just from that, and then when you see Gabriel running backwards when the cop is chasing him/her it confirms it. This means that the "big reveal" lands with a thud for me, instead of elevating this movie to the next level.

With all that said, this movie takes some big swings, which I appreciate in a horror film. While I expect this to not do terribly well at the box office, hopefully James Wan continues to explore the horror genre with new ideas.

Yeah Wan is a solid horror director... as for this one though...

I don't know. I caught on to the twist about 30 minutes in and even told the wife. I will say that I appreciate the originality of it, but I also felt there was some rough execution as well as just some bad acting and writing in general.

Again, I appreciate the originality of it, but it falls on the lower end of Wans works in my opinion. Nowhere near as good as the first two Conjurings, not as good as Saw (which I did get a distinct Saw vibe in this film), but it was better than Dead Silence lol.

Funny you say that. I think I prefer Dead Silence, but that has more to do with ventriloquist dolls being creepy AF.

I actually watched Dead Silence about a month or two ago, so it was still somewhat fresh for me lol. Again, I appreciated the twist in that as well, but all in all, it had really rough acting too. One of my problems is the stereotypical, slasher-like tropes that were littered throughout Malignant. The incessant use of screams, crying, fog machines, etc... it just felt like a stereotypical horror film. That stuff worked in the 70s and 80s with TCM, NoES, and Ft13, when it was still somewhat thrilling and intense to see things like that. Audiences have changed over the decades, that stuff doesn't hit (imo) anymore because we were all brought up on that old stuff and we also see how the real world works. You want a great horror movie, the more real... the better, but again this is all my opinion. That is why I think so highly of The Exorcist, even for it's time it was VERY down to Earth and realistic in its approach throughout the whole film. Same could be said for The Thing.

I remember watching the Goosebump episode with the dummy that had me on edge as a kid, but idk, never really bother me any more. My kids are freaked out by them though lol, that and the Annabelle doll lol. I was looking for a real size replica of the Annabell doll to scare them with, but the only one I could find was outrageous in price.

Personally, my favorite type of horror is Possession and Alien. Possession is hard to get right, which is why there aren't many on my favs list (Exorcist and the first 2 Conjurings is about it). Alien movies like Alien, Signs, The Thing, etc... are all just fantastic imo. Especially Signs, Idk if it gets as much credit as it deserves for being as funny and creepy as it is for a PG-13 sci-fi horror-esque style movie.

For Signs, the water stuff is what lowered my feelings on it.

The Thing is amazing.
