Personally, I think this is a leaked story to put pressure on PAC teams to make a decision. It cost the Big 12 nothing to let rumors get out and only increases the chances of other teams reaching out. I think if the Big 12 wanted Memphis they would have taken them I would argue it would have been a better get than Houston since they are saturated in Texas anyway.

My two cents that probably isn't worth 1 cent.

Boise is a better add than you think as the Boise market is blowing up and they are on fire for that school. I argued before expansion Boise and Memphis should be on the list plus Army, Navy and Air Force.

Of course when I said that the PAC was on solid footing now there is no other move than adding the 4 corners and waiting on Washington and Oregon to beg to get in if the B1G doesn't take them.

I would have done Memphis instead of UCF, but I also understand why UCF was also an intriguing addition. Memphis has great basketball tradition, and adding that to the already-loaded Big 12 would have been great.

I wonder if there's a Memphis/Colorado package. Colorado comes back by itself to get the league to 13, then add Memphis to get to 14. The CU/Utah/AZ schools make the most sense, but there's theorizing out there that nobody wants to be the one to kill off the P12.

Labels aren't gonna matter if the P12 is killed off. Top 6 leagues make the new expanded playoff. Your revenue is set for the next 6 years. B12 is on solid footing.

i think the Big12 (new) will be fine and probably be the #3 best conference..but @ralphiewvu is correct..u keep adding G5 schools people will pigeon hole them as an upgraded C-USA.. taking AZ/ASU/Utah/Udub/Oregon, etc is better than grabbing memphis..MEMPHIS.. and Boise St who had a cool statue of liberty play once upon a time ago..

There is zero reason to add a G5 anywhere when there is P5s to be had. Sure it’s label, but many of that P5 label have an established brand and larger followings regardless of if they Are sucking competition wise. The B12 doesn’t need to have 30 teams and half of them have the G5 label.

Memphis is a unique school though. They aren't a normal G5 school. They are a historically great basketball program, and have been a steady football program the last decade or so. Obviously grabbing Oregon/Washington/Arizona is better, but I'd rather add them over Utah/ASU IMO. You only bring in Utah and ASU if you've already decided to go with AZ and Colorado IMO to keep the travel partner/rivalry.

I don’t think it is going to matter much whether teams are upper tier G5 or lower tier P5. I’ll use a shopping center comparison. Successful shopping centers need an “anchor” store (or stores) to bring in shoppers and then the other stores thrive. The Big 12 lost their two “anchor”stores and the PAC 12 lost their only one. The only anchor store out there right now is Notre Dame and they aren’t looking to be a part of any shopping center.

We agree with adding just two 4 corners. In a perfect world the B12 would add 2 and wait for the ACC (which yes could be in for Over a decade) to add schools. In no way shape or form is Memphis the biggest basketball brand that’s realistic for the B12 to add. I‘d argue the Memphis bball brand may not even be top 5 of who the B12 can realistically add.

There is zero reason for the B12 to start loading up on G5’s. Hell you Could make an argument the only team the B12 would have solidly added today is BYU. I’m sure there is some irritation that UCF, Houston and Cincy were added given what we know today with the PAC and ACC.

That analogy is absolute crap. Sorry DC, but you are trying to say teams like Oklahoma State and KState are the same as Memphis and SDSU.
