NCAA Bans Fake Slide

The rule was already in place. The NCAA apparently needed to clarify it to the refs regarding someone who actually doesn't complete a slide.
Refs should have blown the whistle. Duh

"NCAA Rule 4, Section 1, Article 3(r) states: "A live ball becomes dead and an official shall sound their whistle or declare it dead when a ball carrier obviously begins a feet-first slide."

The ball should have been spotted right there.

This is the answer.
The refs blew it.

The rule was already in place and the wording is such as to take care of fake slides.

Yup this was a terrible non-call but at least it didn't happen in a playoff game. Can't mess with the DB's like that or else a real slide is going to get creamed.

It's savy until some DB clocks the fuck out of someone because he thinks the QB is faking a slide.

Shit, if a DB hit him in the middle of his fake slide he would be getting the 15 and targeting. There wasn't a need to clarify the rule, there was just a need for the refs to apply the existing rule without being dumbasses.

Which lets be honest is what should happen to any player that slides anyway. Be a man
