NCAA Committee Wants To Eliminate Spring Portal

Think you'll see many players on teams in the playoffs in the portal? I feel like if that happens it's likely someone who isn't going to see the field regardless.
We literally had our backup QB leave before our bowl game so he can enroll and compete (and win) the position at another school..

Sucked for that player who was a team first guy the whole time but needed to look for his best interests too.

I see what you're saying, but that was an outlier of a situation when you had 3 stud QBs. The writing was on the wall that he wasn't beating out Ewers and Arch was the future. It's not like he was going to come into spring ball and become the starter, as it was far more likely Arch was going to jump him.

I get that but I think Sark would have rather used Maalik first had Quinn got hurt vs udub..

Very likely, but again, that was a pretty one-off type of situation. I can't think of another team in the portal era that lost anyone of significance when they were part of the CFP.

well get ready because now there are more than just 4 teams

I like the idea of one portal period. But I'd make it the entire month of February. That's after the season, but before spring ball.

I would assume we aren't too far away from pretty much every player putting themselves into the portal. As far as I know there isn't any penalty from going in and then withdrawing, but it allows you the opportunity to shop yourself around. And if you are the #2 at a position and another player transfers in that will clearly bump you down then you will need options, if you don't want to stay and compete.

Are there currently, or any discussions starting, around penalties for entering the portal? Like once you enter do you nullify any existing NIL deals, are blocked from team facilities/events, lose your scholarship, etc?
