Nebraska may be coming off a season-opening loss to Illinois and just 12-21 under head coach Scott Frost, but Saturday's game against Fordham will be a sellout.

Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts announced Tuesday that "two generous donors" purchased the remainder of the tickets for the game at Memorial Stadium to give underserved children the opportunity to attend:

"We had two generous donors come forward and purchase the remaining tickets for the home opener so that we could provide those tickets to young people throughout the state.

"These donors have a strong commitment to Nebraska Athletics and understand our history and tradition. They also have a desire for young people, who may not otherwise have the opportunity, to experience a Nebraska Football game day at Memorial Stadium."

That means Saturday's game will be the 376th consecutive sellout at Memorial Stadium, which Nick Bromberg of Yahoo Sports pointed out is the longest active streak in college football.

The streak may be in jeopardy, though, if the Cornhuskers continue to struggle—and that seems likely with games remaining against Oklahoma, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Iowa.
 
Nebraska will sell tickets for $3 each to "generous donors" if they have to in order to keep the streak alive. The tickets will go for good causes like veterans, kids, senior citizens, first responders, etc.

Hell, we could "give" tickets to all the soldiers at Fort Bliss and still not fill the Sun Bowl. Gotta have a product attractive enough for people to attend....even if tickets are free and/or reduced in price.
 
These sellout streaks are always bogus.

ND claimed sellouts forever until 2019 Navy was the first acknowledged non-sellout games. There were plenty of empty seat sellouts before then though. And they claimed the second longest sellout streak after Nebraska prior to that Navy game.

They're giving the homeless a bonus pack of Marlboro's and a mini Fireball shooter for their attendance.

It's important to them, so why not.

Just wondering who those wealthy donners are, but maybe put that money back for Frost's buyout.
 
So wait, you are under the impression that any ticket sold is from an individual purchaser or something? Every sport and team has numerous companies/businesses, donors, etc... that purchase a bunch and give out. My company always purchases a bunch of tickets to Husker games as well as for the Storm Chasers and gives them out to employees. Every sport event I have been to (college or pro) does that.

They do this before the season -- companies aren't buying thousands of tickets to hand out to whoever to try and protect a pointless "sell out" streak.

It is just the truth. No company says -- i'm going to buy thousands and thousands of tickets to hand out just because. Companies buy season tickets to give out to clients or corporate suites, etc.

What the "donors" did was nothing more than a pathetic attempt to keep a streak going for a program with nothing else relevant about them:shrug:

Yeah actually they do for any number of reasons, team makes xyz goal so company buys tickets... Just one of thousands of reasons to buy after the fact...
