He had a great jr year in hs and got a high rating but didn’t play all of his sr year. He’s a great runner so defenses have to respect it but they don’t have to respect our passing game. ND hadn’t had an elite QB in a very long time.
I watched the game and that is all i kept thinking. He looks like a guy who will protect the ball and not make mistakes, but he won't put the team on his back if it is needed.

Does ND have any WR's? Seems with Mayer at TE, they'd be able to get their WR's some single coverage on the outside. None of them really flashed though.

I think they needed to start relying on the run game a lot earlier. I realize you have a good QB and really good receivers, Day but the running game was working
From what I saw that's no joke! Only saw 2nd half

Yeah -- that is what impressed me. The running game for OSU. If OSU can get going for them, they will be tough.

I was shocked how little ND had on offense. It is essentially the stud TE and that's it. I really don't like that QB of ND's (probably because he reminds me of UM's QB -- who hopefully will lose the job to McCarthy).

In the end -- great test for OSU and quality win.

No. WR depth is a problem. They failed to recruit well the past few years. Avery Davis, an extremely talented slot receiver tore his ACL a year after tearing the other one. A couple of SO WR’s are also hurt. We had to move Xavier Watrs back to receiver and that Matt Salerno guy who caught that bobbling catch in the first half was a walk on who did nothing but fair catch punts for Brian Kelly.

Freeman is trying to correct that and has some very good WR talent coming in if he can hold the class. Also We’re still a year away from Carr coming (if he remains committed, with NIL who knows these days).

@jjc2009 @bksballer89 and any other domer fans on here, helluva game tonight. You all have a really good team, they're very tough and only going to get better. I'm thankful we got this out of the way early in the season, I dont want to play ND again later on
:beer2:
Yeah. They gave me hope in the first half. OSU just out played them in the second half. I am concerned with our OL. 51 made them his bitch all night. Jarett Patterson was out so we had a backup at LG. But right guard Lugg if he’s the best option we’re screwed. Our center who is usually more reliable got abused tonight. Offense will struggle this year against elite defenses.

Hey at least my son’s hs team won 64-0. Could have loaned some points.

It looked like ND expected to bully Ohio State with the run game and Ohio States D line was having none of it. Anyway, very happy with the defensive performance and glad we got the W. Hope JSN is ok

You can tell the WR position was a problem for ND. They just didn't seem to have any go to guys. Their defense was impressive until they seem to wear out later in the 4th.

Carr is going to be interesting to see how he develops. I got to watch him play already, he goes to school about 25 minutes from me. They don't play any of the big boy schools in Michigan, so you don't really get to see how he will fare. They played a big school first round of the playoffs last year and they shut him down and knocked his school out of the playoffs.

That UM didn't go full court press on him, with him being Lloyd Carr's grandson and going to school 10 minutes from UM, it makes me think they aren't sold on him. They could definitely be wrong though.

It looked like ND lacked any playmakers on offense. They have that TE and that is it. I wasn't impressed with anyone else on ND's offense.

OSU was daring them to throw the ball. OSU was bringing their linebackers up on the snap and their safeties would come down to replace the LB's, as they had no one they had to worry about beating them on the outside or over the top.

Both teams had a quality defensive game plan.

Tyler Buchner reminds me of Cade McNamara at Michigan. As a huge Michigan fan, that isn't a good thing.

He looks like a game manager. A guy who won't lose you a game, but he isn't going to put the team on his back if it is needed.
Buchner is a soph making his first career start against a very imposing team at their house. That's a tall order.

He played, sporadically, last year as a frosh whenever Coan got dinged up or was stinkin it up on the field. TB was put in to use his wheels & elusiveness ... hardly ever threw the ball. This year, we're gonna find out what he truly has for an arm. Pretty obvious he needs his OL to provide him some time IOT to find receivers - a luxury he didn't get tonite as OSU harassed him pretty well. I was befuddled why Rees didn't try some run plays designed for Buchner, coulda opened the offense up much more & give OSU something else to 'worry' about.

All in all, I was surprised ND hung with the Bux for 3 qtrs at the Shoe and didn't get embarrassed on the big stage with all the newbs & team issues they'd been dealing with. OSU's defense looks quite improved from recent years.

ND defense is no joke, that is for sure. Overall happy with the defensive effort even with the lack of passer for ND. They are a physical team, good to have an early test with that type of opponent. It is obvious Stroud still needs to get in sync with these young WR’s, he struggled early at times. He was relying on JSN and he only played one play. The running game is important to this team though and a stout OL. Good to see that back in the offense this year they just need to keep it up. That is so crucial.

I was pleasantly surprised by our DB’s. Ben Morrison and Jaden Mickey are rookies too. And I felt they held their own as best they could. Playing 2 high safeties helped and of course they got exposed when they blitzed them. Our front 7 underperformed. Our DL is our deepest unit and they were handled well. By the 4th quarter they were getting pushed around.

I about lost my mind when Golden called that stupid blitz on 3rd & 11. Was just asking to get burnt and ... voila. :gaah:

Changed the game, IMO.

Yep. They weren’t getting home all game. I understand why he tried it but it’s high risk and the only reward is maybe they have a slightly longer FG.

That and letting Stroud extend plays when they put pressure but allowed him to get outside were killers those last two drives.

I told my bro when he called that blitz, "if you're gonna blitz on a 3rd & 11 in the red zone in a game like this, ya bring it with a LB or a corner off the edge ... NOT the deep 2 DB blitz that exposes the call before the snap."

It made Stroud's decision very ez to know where to deliver the ball. It was just an absurd & unnecessary call, IMO.

And, yeah ... by the 4th qtr, ND's D was, simply, gassed & outplayed. They just could never get to Stroud.

Great game. Glad the injured players for OSU will be able to rest and heal the next couple of weeks.

Congrats to ND on holding up in a great atmosphere in Columbus.

See you next year.

PS. If you would join the B1G, we could do this EVERY year. That would be awesome.

Why is OSU’s band playing constantly! Shut the f*%* up!

Didn't you see what happened to Oregon when they couldn't hear their band?!?!

Thought ND set up smart on defense. 2 Deep safeties and forced everything in front of them. Worked out really well, especially in the first half as the Ohio St offense seemed a bit off the pace.

Buckeyes made adjustments and ran the ball more in the 2nd half. Did what they had to do and got a difficult opening week win. All good in my eyes, just hope the injuries aren't too bad.
