Pats release Stephon Gilmore

I could see the LAC making a run. Sunny city, new stadium, 2022 cap room, and they aren't far from being SB favorites.

Plus then you have LAR Ramsey vs LAC Gilmore to hype the intracity rivalry.
I don't want to see that happen.

Fuck that.

He allegedly wants a Ramsey type deal, 21 million per.
I'm sure he does! I'm not sure he will get that much given he's already 31 and coming off a major injury, but I think someone will give him at least 16/y.

Me too.

14-16 is about the max he can expect. Ramsey is younger and closer to his prime.

Gilmore has about 2 more years before he starts to fall off IMO.

I could see some team signing him to one of those patented NFL "announcement contracts" where they say the deal is worth $100M but there's no chance in hell he actually makes anything close to that.

I agree.
I think as a GM you hire this guy as a gun for hire for the next couple years. 1 or 2 yr max contracts. Instead of wasting a large amount of money on a long term contract & watch him fall off a cliff on your watch.

Breaking news on my local sports talk show. Stephon Gilmore was not released as previously announced, he was traded to his home town Panthers for a 6th round pick in 2023.

The Panthers have made the official announcement.

Panthers have the money to pay him now and what he wants in the future. It'll be interesting to see what that contract will end up being.

They're foolish if the go long term with him. 2 years is the max I would offer.

Me too, but I have a hard time believing they'll keep it under 4 years. He knows some dumbass GM somewhere will give him 4 years and I doubt CAR will let him walk without a deal.

Probably correct, but 4 years at his age.......................... yikes.

Latest update from a local patriots reporter is that Gilmore will finish this year for the money owed on his current contract. Looks like he's banking on playing strong when he does get back on the field and using that leverage to get a big dollar contract in the offseason.

Other than upgrading at QB, I don't know how you get any more talent on that Tampa Bay offense.
Their defensive backfield isn't very strong. The rest of the D is really good and the offense has so much talent it's sickening.

Traded him to the Sam Darnolds for a sixth round pick.

Gilmore is originally from the Charlotte metro area

grew up in Rock Hill

Carolina going all out to field a competitive playoff team. That defense was already good, it just got better.
