Playing one of those air crash investigation shows in the background while working and the story is about an Aeroperú flight that crashed in 1996. A fucking mess where the pilots lost most all major instruments and had the computer throwing all kinds of nonsense warnings (stall with stick shaker and over speed warnings at the same time)

Ultimately, the cause was the Pitot Static system (tubes on the plane that take measurements for speed, altitude, etc). were taped up on cleaning.

This sounded familiar so I looked it up....and it’s happened more than a few times, including in Indonesia the past January.

As safe as flying is getting this continues to be an issue to safe flight. And it’s amazing how we fly with what is basically 18th century technology with nothing better out there developed to use.

I try not to fly if I have to leave the ground.
