Player(s) you thought were overrated/overhyped, but after having immediate NFL success, you realized they probably were that good?

I think of DB Micah Hyde for Iowa. I thought as a freshman and sophomore, he was getting good numbers because he had great Jrs and Srs DBs around him and as a Jr and Sr, he was the only DB worth anything on Iowa. He was really hyped up and I did not think he was that good.

That is until he did great in Green Bay. Then I realized that I was wrong and he did deserve all that hype.

Justin Houston. He was good at UGA, but not once did I think he would be one of the best pass rushers in the NFL for a few years.

I think Jonathan Taylor has to be on a lot of people's list. (Not mine. I was all-in on him from the get go). He isn't a product of the system. He is legit The Next Great RB.

I watched the high school and early college train wreck that was Randy Moss’ career and half expected him to get to Marshall and finally crash and burn for good but was happy to see him finally get it all together and take advantage of what God blessed him with. I still had my doubts (from his neck up) once he went to the NFL and knowing the money/lifestyle that could take him down. What a player man, wish we seen it more often.

Martavis Bryant was someone I thought could afford to stay another year in school but was clearly wrong once he was an immediate impact player for the Steelers. But that was shortly lived because of the weed.

Christian McCaffery

I thought he was about as fun a college player to watch as you could find but thought he was way too small to be successful in the NFL.

Derrick Henry

No doubt he was good but I thought he might be too big for the NFL because those guys tend to lean on power alone and that is negated in the NFL. Never would have thought he would be the top back in the NFL but he is.

Coincidentally, I thought former Iowa CB Josh Jackson was going to be a steal for the Packers. I was excited when he slid to GB in the 2nd round. I watched Jackson play some great man coverage in Iowa. Ultimately, I think his strengths didn't really fit the Packers' scheme and personnel at the time and he flopped hard in GB under Mike Pettine's soft defenses. Jackson got lost easily in zones; he's more of a press-man type of guy. Would be nice to see him find success somewhere.

On the BUST side for my own team. I thought Vernon Gholston was going to be a stud. Whoops. Could never adjust to a NFL scheme and playing OLB in the league.
