Somebody in recent years had such a shitty kicking game they did that and didn't punt much. Can't remember who it was but it did happen.
See it all the time in high schools games. They'll try to kick it their first TD and the kicker will shank it, kick the center in the butt, hook and dive bombing bird over the left end's ear, etc. After that the coach will say "Fuck it. We're going for two."
