I'm having a sports argument going on with a guy born in 1999 and it's giving me an ulcer. I'm running circles around him in the basketball discussion, but I'm not as great of a football historian.

So for context, he's saying that Lamar Jackson would be the greatest QB of all time if you put him in the 80's. I argued teams saw a guy like that in Randall Cunningham, who was a better passer. If you swapped out Lamar Jackson back then for Randall Cunningham is Jackson better, worse or about the same as what Cunningham was in that era?

I did see Cunningham play but not exactly in his prime. Cunningham was a uber athletic (not as athletic as Lamar) and a WAY better passer. He had a cannon. No comparison imo.

Worse runner by a little bit. Better passer by a lot.

Although, Jackson is not yet 25 and has upped his yards per attempt to 9 while increasing his completion percentage. With how long he still has to play I think he has every shot to be just as good or better.

Yes, if Jackson can avoid injury moving forward, he's definitely got a chance to surpass Cunningham.

Honestly, Cunningham was also handicapped with Buddy Bell and Rich Kotite.
