So look at Oklahoma vs. Tennessee here.

Tennessee has:

1. More 5 stars and 3 stars than Oklahoma (OU has 0 5* and 9 3*)
2. Tennessee and OU are tied on 4*
3. Tennessee has a higher average star rating

Yet Oklahoma is ranked ahead of Tennessee? Source is Rivals.com 2023 Team Ratings.

There are Points on stars
Red gets it. Ranking is based on the point system and you can have high 4* and low 4* and they can be substantially different.

I'll us Rivals as it's a little easier:
- 5* are worth 6.1 points.
- 4* are worth 5.8 - 6.0 points.
- 3* are worth 5.5 - 5.7 points.

UGA and UTjr might have 18 4* each, but UGA's are 6.0s and UTjrs are 5.8s. That is a huge difference.

Here is a graph I did a few years ago to show the difference in recruiting between UGA and UF. This was on a forum where I was arguing with a UF fan who said they were closing the talent gap:

I pointed out that we had six 5* to their 1. He said, yeah but we have the same number of 4* - they have 13 we have 14. See, he said, you just have 1 more that we do. I then showed this chart where we have two 6.0 4* to their zero, and we have four 5.9s to their 2. They have 3 more 5.8 four stars, but that's not a good thing for them.

They weren't convinced, so I showed them this chart:

This convinced them.
