It's the strategy of the future, just needs to be perfected before it becomes mainstream. I've long been an advocate of eliminating kicking other than kickoffs.

Offense gets the ball, and they keep the ball until they either score a TD, fail to get a first down in 4 downs or turn the ball over. TDs, 2 point conversions and safeties are the only ways to score.

It probably is the future, mostly due to the injuries that happen on kickoffs and punts.

Isn't it Kiffin that goes for it on 4th down a lot in his own territory?

It was pointed out by commentators regarding a coach in one of the games I've watched in the last couple weeks. Thinking Egg Bowl.

Edit: Yes it's Kiffin...

Funny, I’ve long been fine with FG and punts, but kickoffs can get the fuck lost.

If you would be willing to include kickoffs in the elimination I could get fully behind this game of the future.

Scored on team gets the ball at the….let’s call it 35.

Nah. They’re rare, but kickoff returns are some of the most exciting plays. In fact go back to kicking off farther away from the end zone and get rid of the fair catch = touchback

Yeah, I’d be fine with seeing an option to just give the other team the ball.

Need an option though, so onsides kicks can happen.

Not punting is just stupid football.

They are exciting. No doubt. They just stopped outweighing the injuries that happen (and used to happen much more) on kickoffs.

It would be a VERY aggressive change to eliminate punts and make teams have to go on 4th from anywhere on the field. I’ve already had the thought that it would greatly highlight the “haves vs have nots” in games. You would see very lopsided scores.

Punts aren’t weak. They are strategic considering it’s a game of space and territory. And they also aren’t nearly as dangerous as kickoffs are (or were anyway).

I’ve just had a bug up ass about kickoffs for a long while. I’m willing to sacrifice all kicks if it gets rid of them. I’m weird like that.

Although, admittedly, they have taken some steps that reduce how dangerous kickoffs are (the injury to that 49ers player yesterday was fluke). But, to @Illustrious Potentate comment….they have also taken any of the fun mostly out of kickoffs.

So, maybe just kill them fully.

You can’t kill them fully, as no option to kick onside would hurt viewership by limiting comebacks.

But banging them out the back of the end zone shouldn’t need to happen.

I kinda warmed up to the XFL kickoffs they were using in the 2020 season

Legalize the forward pass (limit one up to the 40/50 on kickoff returns and injuries go way down. No more full heads of steam or be burnt for 6 regularly. Make the kickoff team play some real defense… on the fly

You can eliminate them. I’m not sure how accepted they will be, but I do like the idea that was floated to the rules committee last off season for eliminating onsides but giving chances for comebacks.

It was fun while it lasted.

Those triple colored dragon uniforms hurt the eyes though. Oh and the Viper unis made you want to watch in black and white.

You can’t.

I already told you once.
