I had no idea what he was talking about half the time but it was enjoyable. Now he's out there in the cosmic sea jamming with Jerry Garcia

That sucks. RIP.

I always liked his commentary.

here you go portland trail blazers GIF by NBA

Circle a life

Also, if you haven't already, be sure to check out The Luckiest Guy In The World, the 4 part 30 for 30 doc on Walton's life that came out last year. One of the better docs they've done in recent years.

what a long strange trip it's been.

I’ll miss him for sure. I enjoyed seeing him on the tv when the nba was on!

Blazer icon.
A hell of a PAC-12 fan.

I will miss him calling basketball games. He called PAC-12 games the last several years and it was enjoyable in many ways because it was nostalgia to him calling NBA on NBC games. Although his CBB calling games were a bit more adventurous to be taken seriously, I always enjoyed his NBA broadcasts in the late 90's early 00's on NBC.

Another one gone too soon from a disease that has taken far too many people. RIP to a legend.

I met him in the late 80s while I was fishing off the Santa Monica Pier. Nice guy, smiled a lot, no hint of arrogance. Asked if I caught anything. I answered, "Just crabs, oh! you meant fish. No." He laughed.

Definitely. I saw him with Portland vs World Champion Warriors in 1975/1976 season in Oakland Coliseum. OT. Still remember, Warriors could do nothing to stop him and lost. What a great passing center. If he had not gotten hurt, Portland could have been a dynasty. Won 1, had the best record the following year when he got hurt. He was never the same after that with all the chronic injuries.

Sounds like a polite guy as well to laugh at your joke.

He had pronated ankles, which are sort of bent inward. Easy to see how he could get injured.

Found the game box score. Look at rebounds:

"A lot of people understand what not saying anything means, so, in effect, not saying anything is really saying a lot."
