On Thursday, ESPN "College GameDay" analyst Kirk Herbstreit announced sad news about his beloved dog, Ben.

Herbstreit shared on X (formerly Twitter) that Ben has died after a fight with cancer. On Monday, Herbstreit shared that Ben's condition had gotten worse and he couldn't use his back legs after a second chemo injection.

Sorry Herbie

I have a goldendoodle and two cats. Both cats are pretty old, but one of them is my best buddy, and he doesn't act old at all. The doodle is more of my wife's dog. The other cat is going to have to be put down within the next week or so. I am not rushing to do that. After these pets are gone, no more for me. Yeah, where have I heard that before?

Ugh this sucks.

My pup just turned 16 on Halloween. She still has a ton of energy for her age, jumps in the SUV and on the couch without help and gets clean bills of health from the vet (sometimes with amazement).

However, Ive had dogs this old before (first childhood dog lived to 17 and next lived to 14) and I'm anxious bc I know how fast their health can change at this age. I try to make sure my kids appreciate their time with her without coming out and saying she probably won't be with us a whole lot longer

So sad to hear. I love dogs but man this is the hardest part of having a pet. It's a reminder that our time with them in the grand scheme of things is so short, so cherish every day. They have such a huge and positive impact on our lives every day that they really are a special gift.
