Those details have not yet been fully revealed. His family only released that he died peacefully in his sleep.

well, that's freakin' awful, my sympathies go out to his loved ones. Dude was easily one of the best drummers of all time, and I'm not even a huge slipknot fan or anything.

Yes. Before he was diagnosed, it got so bad that he couldn't physically drum anymore. It functioned similar to MS. He had been rehabbing and working hard to get back into drumming shape and he was pretty successful at it. Could certainly be related to that.

The videos of him playing upside down and/or spinning are crazy.
A statement by Sinsaenum (one of Joey's bands) included:
"Joey also had his demons, and nothing hurts more than knowing that we did everything in our power to help and couldn’t get through to him."
This suggests Joey's cause of death may have been similar to Paul Gray's.
