McCarver, a 21-year MLB veteran catcher, died of heart failure today. He played on two great STL Cardinals and Phillies teams, leading each to a World Series. Also played for the Expos and Bosox before retiring in 1980. Following baseball he had a brilliant 23-year broadcasting career.

RIP. Between playing for over two decades and announcing for over two decades, he put a lot of his lifetime into baseball. He was also a voice associated with many pivotal moments in baseball history, even if he was a bit of a Captain Obvious towards the end of his announcing career. Huge loss for baseball.
