Because kicking the PAT in college has a 93% chance of success thus putting you up by 8.
Going for 2 has a 31% chance of success and if you fail to covert you only have a 7 point lead giving the other team a statically better chance at tying it up.

Just seems stupid and gimmicky to try a 2pt conv to go up by 9 when there’s no reason to.
If your defense can’t do its job, than fix the fucking defense.
Rather force them to go for 2, instead of possibly not getting it & only being up 7.

By your logic, a team down by 2 with seconds left should go for 1 because it’s much more successful of a play.
You HAVE TO mention the differentials in results in each scenario.

They could stop you or could return it 97 yds for a 5-pt game.
When they would’ve been forced to score a TD + 2pts since you likely would’ve been up by 8.
