Should Mike Leach be in the CFB Hall of Fame?

His overall record was 158 - 107
Best season was 11-2 x2
Never won a Conference Championship

Perhaps it's the innovation of the game that gets him in, which was great, but did it ever really win anything.
It is a good way for inferior teams to have a better chance against better teams.

I loved Mike Leach but no way in hell he should be in the Hall of Fame before Emory Ballard from Texas/Texas A&M/Mississippi State is inducted. Ballard invented the wishbone formation by tweaking the old Bill Yeoman veer offense. Emory Ballard revolutionized college football. Mike Leach's offensive schemes have made a contribution to college football but they haven't had the impact of the wishbone which was the greatest offense in college football for years.

I would like to say that if you look at the jobs he took, only a HOF caliber coach would have that good of a record.

To put that into perspective, that's 59.62 winning percentage where the minimum requirement is 60%.

He's just 3 wins and no losses shy of the 60%, so if he'd had one final season of just 8-4 he'd be in.

Leach was for sure one of the most entertaining CFB head coaches I can remember. The other being Steve Spurrier.

Not bad for a guy who’s highest profile job was Mississippi State. Winning 11 games at Texas Tech and Washington State is just as impressive as anything Ryan Day has done at Ohio State

It's the way he changed the offense in college football. I don't think we have the offenses we have today without the Air Raid

Leach's offensive innovations have impacted the game at the college and professional levels. And will for years to come.
Ballard's wishbone was important to the college game. Hell, I used it in my coaching days.
But Ballard didn't have to coach at Wazu. Leach is a level above.

Offensive innovation. Lol. Four verts and got rid of rbs. Pretty sure his play diagrams were just stolen from a child's coloring book.

He absolutely should get in and I would support Auburn forfeiting games if that is what it took to get him over the hump.

Ryan Day ain’t exactly HOF material either though.

This...though he did spend some time in Starkvegas didn't he?

I think sometimes his personality overshadows his coaching and people only see the former.

Failure to recognize and acknowledge the difficulty of recruiting to places like Lubbock, Pullman and Starkville is flat out sticking your head in the sand. People like Leach should be recognized for their willingness to take on such jobs and their level of success in doing so. There are those that wouldn't touch those difficult jobs and only take those with built in advantages.
