Should Mike Leach be in the CFB Hall of Fame?

It's the way he changed the offense in college football. I don't think we have the offenses we have today without the Air Raid
Air raid is just run n shoot on steroids. If it’s so damn innovative why aren’t more teams running it?

It's like the veer in that the concepts are incorporated in modern offenses ... nobody runs the veer today, but everyone has a multiple option play using the veer's concepts.

Traditionalist think it ain't football unless it is "three yards and a cloud of dust." Anytime people like Yoeman, Bellard, Leach, Mumme, etc try something new it is considered gimmicky. And a lot of this innovation came from coaches at the high school ranks that were just trying to be competitive at places with lesser talent.

Wears your defense out and linemen don’t want to play in that offense. Plus tough to find a QB that can actually execute it.

No, play a little defense once n awhile and the winning percentage gets him in.

Mike Leach and Lincoln Riley are like guys who can only drive hard on one side of the floor. Once you stop that, what else do they have? Stand out there 25 feet away and shoot 3's? Good luck with that. It's why coaches like them never consistently win championships regardless of where they are coaching or how much talent they have or don't have.

Nope GB. Not even close to the same.

Riley's head coaching career has been at two of the biggest brand name schools in college football. Recruiting top talent to places like those is almost a given and isn't near as difficult as non "name brand" schools. He has no excuses for not winning more than he has.

Leach WAS NEVER at a brand name school where recruiting top talent is a given. In fact, he was at schools that were probably in the bottom half of the conferences in regards of "attractiveness" to recruits.

Mike Leach was good coach. But was he the great coach you're making him out to be? No. Guys like Bill Snyder are in that category. Bill Snyder did more with less and could coach circles around Leach. Look, I couldn't care less if Leach is in the College Hall of Fame. On one hand he did contribute a lot to the game and college football was better off to have had him. If they put him in for that then I'm totally OK with it. On the other hand, he flat doesn't qualify by the rules and he is getting a lot of support because he was popular. It's a coin flip.

No doubt about Snyder. Can’t argue that. I was arguing that Riley and Leach were no where near in the same situation as you indicated. You know the history of CFB. Texas Tech, Wazzou and Miss State are not and never been blue bloods. Oklahoma and USC have been my whole life. Coaching at the two groups is not even close to the same thing. To infer they are in your reference just reeks of silliness.

Answer this. Do you think Saban would have had the same success at Texas Tech, Washington State and Mississippi State as he did at Bama? Would he have done better than Leach did at those three? Possibly. Still not what he did at Bama.

You missed my point. Riley has arguably under performed even worse than Leach did. Neither of them set the world on fire. Leach's teams had less talent but he couldn't coach defense and he didn't even have to play in tough playoff games. Riley consistently under performs with a lot better talent during the season and also when he used to be in playoff games. My original statement was "It's why coaches like them never consistently win championships regardless of where they are coaching or how much talent they have or don't have." One dimensional coaches who don't even recruit very much defensive talent always have a ceiling they can not get through. Riley was in a position to win National Championships; Leach never was. So give the edge to Leach if you want but they both sucked/suck in their own way too often for the same reason: poor defenses.

If he didn't say weird and funny shit in his pressers, very few people would be saying yes.
