For that matter explain any ratings to me. KenPom, BPI, RPI, etc.

We'll start with the NET ratings.

How is New Mexico ranked ahead of Nebraska when they have no Quad 1 wins and no Quad 2 wins? They're (0-2) vs Quad 1, and (0-1) vs Quad 2.

For that matter, how is Michigan St ranked ahead of Nebraska when they have less Quad 1 wins and even lost to Nebraska?

Nebraska beats Purdue, yet the two literally didn't move in any of the rankings (NET, KenPom, BPI, RPI)

I get everybody respects Purdue basketball and nobody respects Nebraska basketball.
Is there a human element involved in these rankings?

Nebraska shouldn't have beat Purdue (let alone by 16 points), so let's just leave both teams where they were in our rankings?

KenPom has you up to #41 in adjEM

Prior to Nebraska's 16 point win over Purdue last night...

KenPom

Nebraska: #42
Purdue: #3

BPI

Nebraska: #68
Purdue: #3

RPI

Nebraska: #49
Purdue: #1

This morning's rankings...

KenPom

Nebraska: #41
Purdue: #3

BPI

Nebraska: #57
Purdue: #3

RPI

Nebraska: #52
Purdue: #1

I get that Purdue's got some good wins....I'm not so much bitching about them.

Albeit those good wins were either on a neutral court or in Indiana.

#1 Purdue wins...

AP Current Rankings

#23 Gonzaga (neutral court Honolulu, Hawai'i)
#5 Tennessee (neutral court Honolulu, Hawai'i)
#11 Marquette (neutral court Honolulu, Hawai'i)
#8 Arizona (Indianapolis, Indiana)
#10 Illinois (West Lafayette, Ind.)

Purdue's losses were both on the road.

Northwestern (@ Evanston, Ill.)
Nebraska (@ Lincoln, Ne)

They do have a road win @ Maryland.

They rose one spot after beating #3 Purdue by 16 points?

Purdue stayed at #3 after losing to the #42 team by 16 points?

OK.
As far as KenPom goes, it is a ranking of the difference between offensive efficiency and defensive efficiency. It is not a ranking of the best teams.

After 14-15 games, the moves will be small. You also have to take into account the margin between you and the teams immediately ahead of you.

Is KenPom not used in the formula (by the committee) for determining NCAA tournament bids?

Here's pretty much the gist of it.

Specifically speaking in regards to New Mexico and Nebraska. The difference in the NET is minimal. The NET is merely a sorting tool. To sort teams into the quadrants. So you can have Q1, Q2 wins etc... The biggest reason for New Mexico being slightly ahead is MOV(margin of victory) and MOD(margin of defeat). This is why Nebraska has a pretty sizable lead in RPI(which isn't used on the ncaa team sheets anymore).

I wouldn't get too worked about it. From a selection process getting quality wins is much more important than having a high NET. If the tournament ended today, Nebraska is probably looking like a 9/10 seed and New Mexico would be right on the fringes(probably out).

KenPom is on the ncaa team sheets, meaning it is discussed for selection/seeding purposes. The actual formula the NET uses, while similar to KenPom, isn't the actual KenPom ranking.

Correct. Section 2 of NET is essentially KenPom.

found this interesting about ken pom

shows purdue with the 3rd toughest schedule. Mich St is 32

Nebraska 151st.

Nebraska has played 4 opponents ranked 300+
Purdue has played just 1 such team. That is why scheduling can be tricky. Any tournament level team is going to beat 200+ and 300+ teams, but scheduling that many 300+ level teams is a huge detriment to your schedule. I would know as a gophers fan because we've played 5 I think it is.

i just don't want to be the butt of ...

name the only p5 team without a tourney win ...

jokes anymore

I think you'll get there. Getting a road split of the next two is important though.
