Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the 4th film of James Gunn's new DC cinematic Universe. It will introduce a much darker iteration of the character than Melissa Benoist's in the Arrowverse. This version of the character is jaded and cynical and pessimistic from growing up under much more difficult circumstances than Clark Kent / Superman.

Jason Momoa has been cast to play Lobo in an upcoming DCU Lobo movie. Update: It turns out Momoa is just playing the role of Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, not getting his own movie, at least, not yet, pending on how well the Supergirl movie does and how well his portrayal of Lobo is received.



 
In this interview with Rolling Stone, James Gunn indicates that he has decided to drop the subtitle Woman of Tomorrow and simplify the name to just Supergirl, just like he decided to drop the subtitle Legacy from his Superman movie.
