Imagine when the SEC goes to 9 IC games. Then throw in a more aggressive OOC - perhaps P2 or others. We are going to have 3-4 elite games per week.

And, there have been some fabulous Friday night games, and games from Tier 2-ish teams.

You're probably correct... but college football is a very close second. I would put college football above all other sports products other than the NFL.

I don't think so. Why would they hate it? Week 1 of the NFL averaged 21 million. AVERAGED! The two the OP mentioned are the best college games of a weekend and don't even approach the NFL average.

There's NFL viewership and Everything Else viewership. I don't understand it but obviously many more are tuning into it than I am. I don't even understand why some of the other sports even try to compete with them head to head....i.e. WNBA Game 5.

I think that will cause the networks to up their ante considerably. Now they have to allow for too many shitty ones in their offer.

I'll love it if they do that. I don't even tune into some of the crappy OOC games. When I do I usually change to a different game pretty quickly.

I agree it is 2nd but I don't think it is "very close" if you look at the numbers. The crappy NFL games draw a lot more than the crappy CFB games but I do think there is one reason for that. The NFL doesn't broadcast as many games on a Sunday (or Thursday or Monday) so they force the NFL audience to fewer games. That increases viewership on a per game basis quite a bit.

I asked one of those NFL fanatics the other day why he preferred the NFL to CFB. One of the reasons he went on and on about. The length of the games. Both are four 15 minute quarters but it appears CFB games are much longer in totality.

Wait until we see the numbers for Illinois v. Michigan, and Indiana v. Nebraska. Having teams like that are going to raise some numbers. Right now LSU and ATM are looking like the might get to the SECCG. We know that Bama, UGA, and Texas will drive some numbers. But add in ATM and LSU being in the SECCG hunt and you are going to see some huge SEC numbers. Disney would be idiots to not jump in on that and give some more money to get more of those games.

They could have done the same thing without blowing up the conferences -- all they had to do with build in incentives for big name teams to play each other OOC.

No shit. Instead of paying crappy schools like Nebraska and South Carolina 50 million a year they could’ve paid Ohio State and Alabama 5 to play each other

Not the same because they don't have conference champ ramifications. Our game against Texas was way better because it mattered in the SEC.

When the OOC scheduling starts to account for the fact that you can have 1 or maybe even 2 losses and still make the playoffs, and better matchups will start to get on the books. Will take a few years to play out the current agreements.

Well, the NFL also only puts three games during the day, one at night, and one on another night at any time. There is no scavenging each other.

And if A&M and Jexas are both in the SECCG hunt the last week of the regular season, gonna be HUGE numbers.
