This whole conference realignment thing might just work ...

Well, the NFL also only puts three games during the day, one at night, and one on another night at any time. There is no scavenging each other.
I agree it is 2nd but I don't think it is "very close" if you look at the numbers. The crappy NFL games draw a lot more than the crappy CFB games but I do think there is one reason for that. The NFL doesn't broadcast as many games on a Sunday (or Thursday or Monday) so they force the NFL audience to fewer games. That increases viewership on a per game basis quite a bit.

I asked one of those NFL fanatics the other day why he preferred the NFL to CFB. One of the reasons he went on and on about. The length of the games. Both are four 15 minute quarters but it appears CFB games are much longer in totality.
True. I addressed that in a later post.

I don't even understand why some of the other sports even try to compete with them head to head....i.e. WNBA Game 5.
That finals game 5 drew a record 2.5 million viewers. Yep, that's a record.

Wouldn't it have gotten a lot more casual sports viewers if it wasn't up against NFL games? Isn't that why CFB schedules the playoffs the way they do? To avoid going head to head with the NFL?

I guess they had to pick their poison though. If they were going to finish on a Saturday or Sunday they were going to be up against CFB or the NFL.

Programming wise, abc/espn is locked into other content on Saturday

So now we’re retconning past conference successes

No shit. Instead of paying crappy schools like Nebraska and South Carolina 50 million a year they could’ve paid Ohio State and Alabama 5 to play each other
Should do that 12 times per year. No sense showing anybody else.
