I may go full jerk and stop tipping all together just to stick it to the tipping system. Boycott the whole thing because it is getting ridiculous. It used to be, and I was totally fine with this, you go get yourself a cup of coffee and the nice employee spins the ipad around and you give a $1 tip for your $3 coffee. Well now that $3 coffee has turned into a $6 coffee by itself and now the tips are getting into the range of $2.50-$3 per cup of coffee.

You know how when they show you the ipad with the three automated tipping choices, the lowest used to be like $0.75 and now the lowest is $2.50. So my once cup of coffee that was $3 and for being nice $4 total, is now in the range of $8.50. It's out of control. On top of that, it seems everywhere now is a tip option.

Find me a restaurant or coffee shop that does accept tips, that the employees are getting paid enough to where a tip is no longer needed.

That last sentence is suppose to say find me a restaurant or coffee shop that doesn't accept tips. Here is a tip for this site, the edit button has worked for a year.

I like watching the videos of the asshole Uber or GrubHub people bitching about people not tipping enough.

They will complain about only getting a $5 tip on a $20 order. It's insane

Some employees seem to forget they are actually getting an hourly wage and think their entire paycheck relies on tips. I believe people here are getting $15 or $16 per hour with the minimum wage increase.

Easy. Don't buy $6 cups of coffee in the first place.

Tipping should be eliminated. The employer should be paying their employees, not the customers.

That said, I'm a very generous tipper.

And the coffee shop is just an example, this is happening everywhere.

So unless you want the coffee from McDonald's don't support local coffee shops? My typical cup of coffee that I used to buy at $3.25 per cup is now $5
I drink a watermelon Monster Zero on ice in my Yeti knockoff cup every morning. Water while at work. Liquor after work, and I rarely drink anything without alcohol on the weekend

I only pay for coffee (aside from the grocery store) when I'm on a road trip. And it's always gas station coffee. The day I spend $5 for a cup of coffee is the day I blow myself.

Once a week, usually Friday or a Saturday, I indulge myself with a high caffeinated coffee drink. So it's a once a week spending, but again the coffee shop is just one example of many with how tipping is making everything that is already becoming expensive more expensive.

What are people's thoughts on picking up take-out? If I am sitting in the restaurant a $5-$8 tip is reasonable, but what about if I order online/on the phone and go and pick it up? They spin that ipad around and ask for a tip.

Door Dash, Grub Hub, Instacart and Uber drivers aren't getting paid hourly.

I don't tip for take-out orders. The idea of that is absurd to me.

I can agree with some forgetting what tipping was about.
It is about service. If your server, coffee stand or whoever is being pleasant. I believe they earn a tip. but as someone else pointed out. those expecting you to tip a certain amount no matter what they do or dont do are irritating.
I personally do tip my coffee stand people, I tip wait staff & the person cutting my hair. & they all reciprocate appreciation, not expectations.
my coffee stand asks if you want to tip (since covid they been dealing with the ipad) & reminds you that you dont have too. & always thanks you if you do tip.

You are right people are forgetting what tipping is about. I went to this coffee shop and tip whatever employee is working the same amount, no matter what, just to be nice. But then one day I legit had a question about a drink and the server actually helped me. I ended up tipping them the exact same amount as I tip those who just turn the ipad around and do nothing but take my order. I should've tipped the person who actually helped me more because of their service, they actually helped me with something in regards to a question I had about a certain drink. But because the tipping price is getting so high, sorry the service, although it was better than anything before, wasn't worthy of $3. I was already tipping $2.50 which was their lowest offered choice.

Your people do not have a good reputation for tipping. I dont believe you
