Deion is kind of fooling himself here. A talent like that isn’t interested in getting back to his roots by going to a HBCU, it’s about rubbing elbows with a legend and the $$.

We were neighbors of Deion Sanders in far North Dallas for awhile and he was always friendly and could take a joke. I already knew some of the other Cowboys players and most of them were good guys but Sanders was the most fun because he never seemed to be under as much stress as most people. The guy was super relaxed and had a good attitude toward life.

I’m sure he’s a fun loving guy but I think he’s deluding himself if he thinks there’s going to be a serious push for top AA recruits to go to HBCU’s. They maybe would want to play for HIM but it’s not some big cultural movement

Probably because he only played well a couple times a year. A low stress lifestyle.

“Prime Time” was his nick name because he was an average player at all other times.

May very well be so. The charter school he opened and attempted to run was one big fraud and clusterfuck. I did contract work for TEA during that episode and saw it first hand. That "Oh well" attitude may have been part of the reason it was operated the way it was.

Possible. He was always very nonchalant about stuff. In a lot of ways he was like Herschel Walker before Herschel started having some marital problems. Both of them always smiling and good at remembering names, etc. I told Deion one day if I was him I'd just walk down the street picking fights. He was surprised and asked me "What the heck are you talking about?". I told him "Well, I'd be able to whip almost everyone that wanted to try me and if I couldn't whip his ass I could out run the SOB". He cracked up.

Probably. Where Deion’s dog won’t hunt is he expects those players to thumb their noses at big NIL money from non HBCUs so they can play for crumbs with “their people”. That’s smells of indentured servitude more than some he considers racist.
