I hated UTjr with a white hot hate in the 90s. Not many here realize how good they were and they dominated the SEC. They were 12-3 against Bama. They won 9 straight against UGA until the tide turned in the 2000s. The only team that could beat them was UF. And man were their fans "in your face" type of fans ... not that there is necessarily anything wrong with that as I am proving with this post. You have to be a certain type of fucked up for all this to happen. Let's not forget that they all but had Schiano and The Pirate hired as coaches, but the fans revolted, led by Clay Travis, and they got Fulmer and Pruitt.

you know it was a weird time when UK's and Vandy's retarded lil brother was the second best team in the SEC

Eww, gross…whoever posted that used game time rankings. :puke:

One of my favorite games ever was the beatdown Bama put on them in Knoxville in 2002 to end their long winning streak. Gerald Dixon backward pass return for a TD and Santonio Beard scoring on a screen where his knee was clearly down was fucking orgasmic. The 05 game where Roman Harper forced a Touchback and Bama kicked a Game Winning FG was also awesome.

I hate Tennessee. I was at the game at Legion Field where Manning tore us a new one. Fuck him and Fuck Tennessee. They deserve everything they get after Fat Bastard Phil Fulmer ratted Bama out to save his own ass.

really enjoy how despite Alabama winning 6 nattys in the last thirteen seasons, they still tend to be an angry group of people

The zero part will still be true if you use end of the year rankings.

I think the impact of this is that 39 times they came into a game being marketed as a top 10 matchup and got beat. The fact that the team turned out to be worse makes even worse.

I think the double blocked kick had to be the best, right? The agony, and then the agony again. You can't beat double agony.

You can say the same about Georgia fans as well.

There is definitely a complex for what happened in 1990s. TN fanbase is probably the same way about Florida and Spurrier. Florida really owned us.

To sum up Tennessee, we are that historically good program that cannot find a decent coach (although I am really liking our current coach). Kind of like Nebraska.

The worst Tennessee games were 96 and 03. We were dominating the 96 game and fucking blew a 13-0 lead and allowed like an 80 yd run with 2:00 left to lose. 03 was 5OT where we let them convert a 4th and 19 in the 3rd OT to extend the game. Fuck Them.

Bama fans are extremely extremely lucky these days but that stretch from 97-07 was infuriating. I tell my nephews all the time don’t take this shit for granted

Alabama-Tennessee is one of the worse rivalries in the sport because it is a rivalry of long streaks (with Bama tended to come ahead all-time). One team is always up and the other is down. It is very rare, other than those transition years, to see Alabama-Tennessee games were both teams are great.

I would think the worse season for Alabama had to be 2000. You guys started #3 and finished 3-8 that season. I remember those rough times with Alabama. Mike Dubose was one of the worse coaches that I saw up until Tennessee started its streak of bad hires.

When I see people here, many of whom were not alive in the 90s or weren't old enough to understand, talk bad about UTjr, I realize they don't get how good they were and why their fans feel entitled to be at the top echelon. They were damn good.

From 1985 - 2006 here are their year end rankings = that's 20 years:

4, 8, 8, 17, 5, 3, 4, 4, 5, 13, 3, 2, 3, 1, 2, 11, 2, 4, 6, 9, 3, 7

If you had lived that for 20 years, can you imagine living the nightmare of 07-22?

Ironically Georgia getting Mark Richt and LSU getting Nick Saban started the downfall of Tennessee football IMO. We had the ability to go into regions like North Georgia to get the best talent. Peyton Manning came out of Louisiana and we got prospects from there. Jamal Lewis came from Georgia and really ran all over you guys.

In the early 2000s, we were already having to pivot recruiting to California and Texas to try to compete. This is why Tennessee was scheduling a lot of West Coast games. The problem was Fulmer lost those games and it wasn't like they looked good when they lost them either. The 2008 UCLA game was ugly. Tennessee was undisciplined and committed tons of errors and turnovers. Despite being our worse enemy, we still almost survived.

As long as Alabama and Georgia are up, I don't see Tennessee getting back 100%. We can and should at least get to where we are winning 8-9 games a year.

FSU and Miami coming back would help us as well because they took talent from the other SEC programs back when Tennessee was good.

@WhosYourDawggy, if you think Tennessee was bad, look what Florida did to you from 1990-2010 or so.

I don't need to look ... I lived it.

The only thing that makes me feel Ok is that we have a very streaky record with UF. Before they went off on is, we were 16-5-1. Then they went 18-3 on us. I am old enough to remember the 16-5-1 ... part of that was when I was in law school, so I enjoyed that.

The most current run has us at 7-4, and I expect that gulf to widen unless Coach Swingblade gets way better than he is starting off as.

Out of curiosity, why another thread about Tennessee? This would have fit well in the Uh... oh Tennessee thread. I feel like we get more than enough representation on this board and can't blame other posters if there is Tennessee fatigue. (Seems like Oregon and Nebraska are two other teams that get overrepresented on this board... perhaps Texas as well).

Florida is the most frustrating matchup for me because Tennessee always plays Florida with butterflies. It is generally our worse played game every year. Despite losing to Georgia a lot and you being a better program, I sometimes feel more confident playing Georgia because we at least seem to play well against you sometimes.

That 2014 game was ugly though with the fumble in the end zone that cost us the game.
