Vikings sign Zadarius Smith

Thrilled with the signings of Smith and Jones in the middle, but going to need some serious help in secondary for it to have an effect.

Smith had back issues last season.

Beware: Smith tends to over-commit to the pass rush and pulls himself out of position to stop the run and cover screens. Against good QBs and OLs, this will be a problem for the Vikes.

The Packers defense was better without him last season.

Yes it was, but that wasn't the only reason. Gary hit that 3rd-year stride & began to realize the potential he was drafted in the first round for. Campbell was a huge addition that greatly helped stabilize the LB corps. Changing DCs was a factor, too.

Gary is an upgrade over Zadarius.

Certainly. Z. Smith actually reminded me a lot of Clay Matthews. There's a lot of big bang or big bust with those guys.

Clay was a reason the Packers made it to the playoffs, then also a big reason why they bowed out early - particularly against the Kaepernick-led 49ers.
