any suggestions? I only want it to get Peacock and a few other selected channels that my tv doesn't offer. There's a shit ton of varieties out there and not sure what would be the best to buy.

No "I have a firestick in my pants" joke yet?

LOL.

I take it you don't have a smart tv.

Then just buy a firestick, 24.95 on sale right now at amazon.com.

I bought a firestick. Then I bought a roku. I think I like the firestick better.

Well I looked and the new roku is a lot better than the one I bought, and the same price as the firestick.
So just pick one.

We have two. One has a remote that can power and control the volume of the TV. The other can't. I'd recommend the one that does.

I’ve used fire sticks exclusively. I can recommend them. I know many love their Roku too. Either/or.

Will call out what’s already said….if you have a smart TV you won’t need either of them to get what you want. If not….take your pick….neither one is wrong.

we have one, I recommend getting one, you can download numerous additional apps for it like Apple TV and such, so it’s worth it if you don’t want to just go out and grab a smart tv.

I do have a smart tv but cannot load any apps into other that what is already included with the tv. I am to understand that using a firestick will allow the download of additional apps - is that true?

Yes. I can't get things like mlb.tv on any of my smart tvs, even the nice LG we bought recently.

I don't remember having any problems loading apps on my smart tv or my firestick or my roku.

But then I haven't really used them since last winter in florida, I don't have enough bandwidth here at home to watch for long. I actually don't have an smart tv's in the house, only in the motorhome.
I do remember using vizio smart cast from my phone to watch a preseason baseball game on my outside smart tv while I was down there so maybe you all are right.

I have both smart TVs and fire sticks (and an Xbox one). All work great. Nice thing about fire sticks is you can easily move them around the house from tv to tv.

My smart tv came with a shit ton of apps and all I had to do was activate them in order to use them. The issue is that it will not download anything else that is why I want to get a firestick.
