I have joked that the answer is yes, but the more and more I think about it I don't think it was a fix. Here is my thinking...Dallas won one play-in game and then lost the second. Had we won the second one we wouldn't have been in the lotto drawing, that's a little close to cut it if something was promised to Nico or Dumont. It isn't like the Mavs are afraid of announcing that we are tanking, we have done it before to end up with Lively. With the amount of injuries we had no one would have thought twice had we not brought AD, Lively, or Gafford back.
Now if the conspiracy is that the NBA told the Mavs FO to send Luka to LA for no return and "the next time you are in the lotto" they would give us the #1 pick then that makes a little more sense. But even at that point no FO is going to agree to that. They are giving up a generational player for the promise that some point in the future they will have the #1 pick? Most years there isn't a player like Flagg in the draft, so that would be too big of a gamble.
