TV Series We Own This City

Just started watching it a couple nights ago. 2 episodes in and it's pretty good but it could definitely do without the forced wokeness and Hillary love/Trump hate.

I also can't at all buy the one kid from The Wire that was out in the original courtyard sofa in the projects in season 1 of The Wire now being some detective character in this show. Besides the fact that he is very short he just looks high all the time. That worked perfectly for his character on The Wire but all I can think about with him in this show is his high dopey character on The Wire. Doesn't help that so far in two episodes he plays a seemingly dopey detective.

I hear you on the detective who was in The Wire. It was jarring to me at first, but I will say I thought by the end he did a really good job as this detective, and it wasn’t so jarring anymore.

On the politics side….I thought they did a very good job of speaking to the times and events without going too deep into the politics. It was after Freddie Gray and the riots, it was a Democrat led administration and Justice Dept involved. They were concerned about a Republican admin pulling them from these efforts, a legitimate worry.

If I put the politics hat on and take score I think the truth shared through this story was even uglier for the Dems. But, it might take all six episodes to have that view.

You guys might be talking about two different detectives.

Hes talking about Poot from the Wire. Who is a detective in this for only the first two episodes.

You seem to be talking about Marlo. Hes a really good actor and experienced playing detective roles and has a believable look to it which is why he was great.

Yeah. Yeah I did. My bad.

I was thinking of Detective Suiter. He was phenomenal in this. Not placing the other one right now.

I agree with it being more damaging to Dems in general by the end.

Overall, though, there were really only 2 or 3 direct comments about what was going on in DC over the entire series. And I thought it was somewhat accurate because of who the players were irl. They were all Dems (this is Baltimore, afterall), so of course they would comment about potential fears of how Trump and his admin would treat them.

Correct. I don’t blame anyone for just hearing Trumps name in a Hollywood production and immediately having an issue with it, no matter what’s actually said. It’s what we do these days.

I was wondering if they would take shots based on the timeframe this was done it, but I’ll say it for Simon, he did well. All they did was voice the kind of concerns any DoJ would have with an admin and party change coming.

What they took from real events here they did a fair job of “just the facts, ma’am”.
