What happened to these guys? Virginia Tech was a constant top 15 program for years, even recently being paired up with Tennessee to host that NASCAR stadium thing that held like 150k people or something crazy like that.

But I haven't seen a VT game on TV since 2021? I think when they kicked off the season and had fans in the stadium for the first time? But these guys were always on TV and always a top program within the ACC.

Not trolling here, but what happened to them? Just bad coaching? Was Beamer that big of an importance to their success? What happened to their loyal DC Bud Foster? Just strange that they had a run of eight 10 win seasons in ten years and now you don't hear anything about them.

its a one coach program. you would think that UVa or VT would be better at football considering it's a decent HS football state, but nope.

Yeah Virginia should be way better than they have been. Historically what a bad program. Their bball program figured it out, but for some reason their football program has never taken off. In fact, I'd say UVA is in a better spot for building something because they aren't tucked away in Blacksburg.

That are a fringe program. Hit some momentum with Beamer, had a nice ride. Now, its over. No one wants to play for Va Tech

Didn't they get pretty good at the end of this season ???

Beamer made VT what it is(was). IMO VT screwed the pooch when they didn’t just hire Bud Foster as their HC when Beams retired (he may have stayed a year or two too long as well TBH) and try to keep their momentum but, they swung and missed with the HC hire and have never recovered.
VT is never going to be a blue blood type of power but they should definitely be better than they are currently. I think this was year 2? For their new HC so.. he may get em to a better level given some time.

Mostly 2 things.

1) The prior AD, Jim Weaver, got fat and happy during the success in the 00s and didn't keep putting money back into the program to keep pace like the other successful programs were doing. So we fell behind a lot of programs money wise by not having facilities, donors, etc. It's changing some but it'd gonna hard to recover in that aspect. Also, the fool turned down an SEC invite in 2012.

2) Fuente wrecked the program. Shit coach and torched a ton of recruiting relationships in the area. Gonna take time to rebuild those. Early returns seem to be Pry is making in roads rebuilding relationships but its gonna take years and that's assuming Pry is actually a good coach himself.
