Going with the current rankings of the AP poll. Since we don't have any championship game winners, if two teams have an equal record the tiebreaker is the team currently ranked higher in the AP poll. These would be the matchups as follows:

First Round Byes:

#1. Alabama
#2. Oregon
#3. Penn State
#4. Oklahoma

First Round Matchups:

#5. Georgia vs. #12. Coastal Carolina
#6. Iowa vs. #11. Ohio State
#7. Cincinnati vs. #10. Florida
#8. Arkansas vs. #9. Notre Dame

Ole Miss, currently #12 would get left out because Coastal Carolina would be the 6th best conference Champion. The ACC would be left out of a 12 Team Playoff we're it to end now.

Would be interesting.

SEC - 4
B1G - 3
PAC - 1
B12 - 1
Indy - 1
G5 - 2
ACC - 0

I don't think it is likely that the ACC champ gets left out unless they all lose to each other. A 1 loss ACC champ will be ranked higher than 1 of Coastal or Cincy, I believe. But for now the ACC gets the 0 they deserve.

This is also why the CFP will expand to 12 ... the B1G may be in the alliance, but that isn't an equal partnership ... they want 12 so they can get 3 in most years. The ACC, PAC and B12 have to have the 12 team CFP to get at least one team in. Indy teams and the G5 definitely want it. The minute WVu's Pres Gordon Gee came out against it, I knew it was a sure thing.

Byes are for the weak.

No sir, I don’t like it

I like that Coastal Carolina part
Too many teams from one conference (even if my team gets the benefit), no byes, no rematches the first round, no two teams from the same conference playing the first round.

It’s not the end of the year and you guys backload your conference games. Wait until the end of the season when all the hay is in the barn.

Oh I know, I’m just saying what I don’t like about it. We won’t be 11th after going 13-0

Any playoff without Mike Leach in it is a farce. He doesn’t need to actually be coaching a team, just randomly on the field at times swinging his sword and opining on Netflix series and the meaning of life.

Well, that's 50% new blood. I'd like to see 100% new blood.

Am I the only ones that wants to see such?

I mean, if old blood is a top 12 team then yes I want to see them there.

I think most people do, that’s why expansion is happening. However, the top 4 right now has a lot of new blood. Iowa and Cincy have never made. GA and OU have never won it

You are more positive, optimistic and less cynical than I am. I've never thought the old guard wanted a system that allowed such. That group of back room, cigar smoking folks probably didn't like the fact that Clemson, Washington, Sparty etal ever got in. They want eyeballs and the old guard draws them IMO.

Old guard basketball counterparts probably threw a shit fit at the final four group last year. While some of them had been there before, only one was in the old blue blood category.
