Not ever supposed to eat chicken on New years day.. your going backwards!
Another good reason to not eat chicken or turkey on New Year's Day is because these creatures scratch backward in the dirt, which is thought to symbolize dwelling on your past and preventing progress in the New Year.

I believe the actual rule is you’re not supposed to give credence to crazy superstitions on New Year’s Day. Too late on the chicken. It was delicious.
